ROCK SINGER ENDS IT ALL Do you remember Sugarloaf’s Green Eyed Lady in 1970? In 1974, Jerry Corbetta and Sugarloaf knock CBS Records, which turns them down, with Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You (#9). From 1980-84, Jerry sings in Frankie Valli’s Four Seasons group. Corbetta spends the 1990s and early 2000s as part of Oldies package tours. In 2009, he learns that he has Pick’s disease, which slowly destroys the nerve cells in the brain like Alzheimer’s. On September 16, 2016 Jerry Corbetta passes at 68 in Denver, CO.
FOX NEWS IN FOR MAJOR CHANGES Three FOX primetime hosts all have exit clauses in their contracts if Roger Ailes is no longer at FOX. Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly and Greta Van Susteren have exit clauses. Megyn Kelly’s contract expires in 2017, but she is more in love with herself than news reports. Bill O’Reilly may elect to retire while he is still on top. We miss Greta Van Susteren very much. We also believe there is more to it than a financial dispute between FOX and Greta. What do you think? Only The Shadow knows.

ED MILLER [former OM KPCN-730] (Austin, TX) Subject: (email to Bill Bragg) KPCN-730 Reunion. It could have been me you saw, but I don’t really know. I was deeply involved in building the KPCN remote broadcast trailer (using my skills as a drag racer), and went with it to numerous live broadcasts, far too many over the years for me to remember which one when and where. Still waiting to hear back from Brad Wilson and The Big R on a date that fits with their lives for the Reunion. Whenever that blessed date is announced, you’ll hear it here first, on the Big 7-30. ~Ed

JACK PARNELL [ex WHBQ-560 PD/DJ] (Memphis, TN) Subject: Johnny Dark. You scared me with the news of Johnny Dark’s passing! I didn’t know that one, but the original Johnny Dark, nee John Dorrity lives here in Memphis. He too worked in many many stations around the country, and was also extremely popular. He’s from Jackson, TN. and worked at WMPS here in Memphis for quite a spell. He later became a weather man at a local Memphis TV station, and became very popular in that position too. He was inducted into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame last year. He’s had many health problem in recent years, still has that great voice, and when he and I get together, we love to talk the good radio days, like Wink Martindale and I often do about our disk jockey days together at WHBQ. Jack Parnell-former DJ/Program Director–WHBQ Memphis.

GARY DELAUNE [KYTY-810 – ex KLIF-1190-CH 5 KENS TV] (San Antonio, TX) Subject: Cabana Motor Hotel. Jim; You always hate to see a part of history disappear into the modern world but I guess it was inevitable. They should have brought Raquel Welch back as a cocktail waitress. I am ashamed to admit it but Joe Long told me to go to La Cabana to cover a singing group from England. I remember so many hundreds of kids I think they pushed out one of the big windows in front. I didn’t know who the Beatles were. I guess I was an unaware news guy who didn’t pay that much attention to the music. GD (www.garydnews.com)
LESLIE WAYNE HODGES [ex KRCS DJ] (Lake Livingston-Coldspring, TX) Subject: Jim Pruett KLOL. Mark (Stevens) and Jim (Pruett), I called them at KLOL after 10 one morning in 1999 and they over the phone for thirty minutes Cut promos for AM 1090 in Bellville and when they are in Bellville they admit it, they listen to AM 1090 KNUZ Bellville.
