The Cross In Focus by Author Marci Alborghetti
The women who had come with him from Galilee followed, and they saw the tomb and how his body was laid.—-Luke 23:55
Oh how I fear the tomb! I’m willing to follow Jesus into the Garden of Gethsemane and I’m certain. I won’t abandon Him like the disciples when Judas showed up with the soldiers. I’ll stay with Jesus through the Sanhedrin’s trial, Pilot’s questioning. ‘Herod’s ,mockery the shoulders. I’ll stand at the foot of the Cross and, later weep while Mary holds the body of her Son as Nicodemus and Joseph wait. But, oh that tomb. I do not want to go there with Him.
As a child, I used to welcome the trip to the tomb at the end of Good Friday. It was a relief for me that finally, Jesus’ suffering was over. Finally He would have rest. I couldn’t wait for the end of Good Friday service, because it meant the end of His pain and the beginning of anticipation. But the older I get, the more troubled I am by the tomb. And so today I’m trying to recapture the feeling I had as a child when I saw a stained- glass window depicting Jesus ” body being placed on a shelf’s hewn into the rock wall of the cave like tomb. I I went to bed last night and imagined myself lying on the ground below that shelf, keeping vigil with my Lord.
