WILL FOX NEWS LOSE ITS DIRECTION? The departure of Fox News’ visionary leader Roger Ailes who builds Fox News into the most-watched news network might open doors for rival CNN to close the ratings gap. Ailes, one of the most powerful executives in TV history, makes Fox News the leader with an average 2.2 million viewers in prime time. CNN has 1.16 million and MSNBC has 890,000. Andrew Heyward, former president of CBS News sighs: That creates a potential opportunity for not only CNN, but MSNBC.

BILL BRAGG (Dallas-Richardson, TX) Subject: KPCN (730) Reunion. Hi Jim: …remember the Remote Broadcast Trailer? It was so nicely built and we kept it parked at my house part of the time. We did LIVE remotes all over town; and I remember once (long before I became The Voice of BIG TEX). I was LIVE at the State Fair of Texas! I was set-up near the stage where the Dallas Symphony Orchestra was playing. Judging by the “Dirty Looks” I got from most symphony listeners in the audience; I don’t think they appreciated the Lefty Frizzell and Hank Snow tunes that we(re) coming out of the speakers on my Trailer! Keep up the good work; You’re a “National Treasure”! Bill Bragg (www.billbragg.com) 47 years in Radio & TV Broadcasting – The Voice of BIG TEX 2002 – 2012 The State Fair of Texas=

JAY WEAVER [KLBK-1360/KCUL-1540/KPCN-730/KBUY-1540] (DFW-Hurst, TX) Subject: KPCN Reunion. OH – I think Bill (Mack) would probably show up if it was here locally. He’s 85 now and moving slow, but I have seen him recently and he is still with it. I remember Randy Ryder only from hearing him on the air at several local stations, KYAL and KFJZ. Never met with him or worked with him. Brad Wilson – I know of a Brad Wilson, but may not be the same one. Just checked – is this the Brad Wilson that worked at KBOX? Yes, I know who he is. He and Larry Shannon were friends and business partners. This Brad Wilson is in the film making business now. Jay Weaver

DAN MCCURDY [KLIF-1190/KBOX-1480 Dallas, TX/WMEX-1510 Boston, MA] (Sherman, TX) Subject: Larry Scott… Jim…just wanted to clear up a date in JRRR. I left KBOX in January 1967 and joined 7-Eleven’s ad agency on January 23. I left prior to the format switch to C&W. The report regarding Larry Scott’s move to KBOX in 1966 is incorrect. His appearance on 1480 was after I left.

LESLIE WAYNE HODGES [ex KRCS DJ] (Lake Livingston, TX) Ron (Crowder) in the 1980’s managed KWTX Radio and maybe Television, in the 2000’s Ron managed the Waco Fox Station. In the 1980’s I meet with the Program Director of KWTX on a Saturday morning 10:51 am Coming through well worn pine double doors of KWTX Radio and Television on The Heart Of Texas Fair Grounds is now a white haired Ron Crowder, I explain; here to talk with his P.D. on being on air and production. Age thirty something P.D. arrives and Ron ask the P.D. to talk with him, this P.D. Ask me to step inside a production room and he will be right with me. :30 seconds later this P.D. Steps inside and says I need to hire on at the tire store he had previous worked in. Soooo why is this Program Director here employed with KWTX and still not in the tire store?
ROY ORBISON (04/23/1936 – 12/6/1988) I may be a living legend, but that sure don’t help when I’ve got to change a flat tire.
