FRANK HALEY [KDAZ-730 newscaster – ex KLIF-1190, KILT-610, KTRH-950, KVIL FM & KOB-770] (Albuquerque, NM) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio July 22, 2016 [Friday] Issue #1531. LIZ PATRANELLA [Liz Houston – KTSA-550, KBAT-680] (Austin, TX) Subject: Bruce Hathaway Update. Hey, Everyone! Joe Mansfield, SoSARB member and 60-year friend to Bruce Hathaway, was in town this week from Tennessee and had a long visit with Bruce at the Rehab facility. Here is Joe’s report: “I spent 2 hours today with Bruce. He is at Power Back Rehab on Hamilton-Wolfe Rd. in Room 221. His phone in his room is 210 547 2581. He welcomes all calls but he is in rehab several hours a day. If the number does not answer, call back: he is in rehab. He looks good but is unable to walk without a walker. His legs are the main pain sights. We talked about the old days a lot. Please Pray for Bruce.” Thanks, Joe, for the update. As mentioned before, probably the best time to call Bruce is late afternoon or early evening, as his rehab is during the morning and mid-day hours. Liz

JAY WEAVER [KLBK-1360/KCUL-1540/KPCN-730/KBUY-1540] (DFW-Hurst, TX) Subject: KPCN Reunion. Hi Jim – I’d love to go to a KPCN Reunion. Just wondering how many KPCNers are left. Austin probably would be the best spot when you consider that several may have to come further than you would have to come. It’s pretty much centrally located to most of the state. I’m here in Fort Worth and it’s a day trip to Austin plus a hotel room most likely. Waco would be better for me, but not better for you. Jay Weaver

TRIVIA ANSWER: On July 13, 1969, more than 100 US radio stations ban The Beatles‘ new single The Balled Of John and Yoko because the line Christ, you know it ain’t easy is sacrilegious.
JIM MCCURDY [ex KORQ FM DJ, KTAB-TV news anchor] (Austin-Cedar Park, TX) I understand! We were involved in radio when it was really personality radio and local, not the canned stuff we hear today and the satellite influx. I miss those days and glad I’m not involved in the new world of broadcasting today.
PAUL HARVEY (September 4, 1918 – February 28, 2009) Stay tuned for the rest of the story.
