One year ago Miranda Lambert & Blake Shelton announced they were divorcing after four years of marriage
“This is not the future we envisioned,” the couple said in a statement to theAssociated Press last year. “And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”
Cue the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the country music-loving community. But what a difference a year makes. In less than 12 months, both Blake and Miranda have released new music and found new lovers.
Blake’s new lady friend is Gwen Stefani, while Miranda’s new beau is Anderson East. Blake dropped a new single, “Came Here to Forget,” in March, followed by his 10th studio album, If I’m Honest, in May. Both the single and album reached the top of Billboard‘s charts. Miranda contributed a track, “Sweet Bye and Bye,” to Dave Cobb’s compilation album, Southern Family, in March, and she released a new single, “Vice,” on July 18.
Fresh off the release of her new single, Miranda made reference to her turbulent year in an Instagram post on July 19, stating: The last year of my life has been one of heartache and healing, … Of learning to be honest …. Accepting the flaws and celebrating the smiles. Finding peace in dark places … having some moments alone with me. Facing fears and feelings… All of them. I got to know my guitars…became friends with a pencil and paper … Used melodies to lead me places I had never been…. Made music with my friends. Because music is medicine. This means the world to me. Thank you for joining me on this journey.
