BOBBY BONES HAS DEATH THREATS One of Country radio’s most graphic DJs Bobby Bones has to look over his shoulder: I’ve had 15 death threats. I have security with me everywhere I go. In just three years since he leaves Austin, TX and heads to WSIX FM in Nashville, TN the hugely popular Bobby Bones Show reaches almost five million listeners weekly in 100 markets across America. His employer radio giant iHeartMedia, formerly Clear Channel, struggles with $20 billion in debt, but they protect their asset Bobby Bones.

JAY WALKER [CBS Radio Dallas/KJKK FM/Infinity KTSA-550/KTFM FM/Own Jay Walker Prod/Jay Walker Competitive Audio consultant 40 Plus Years In Radio] (Dallas-McKinney, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio May 27, 2016 [Friday] Issue #1515. Jim Good morning Thanks for this weeks newsletter. The minute they hit the in-box I jump in just so I can keep up on the doings of radio in the great southwest and points further. We’re still dodging lightning up here. This year has been the absolute worse for cloud to ground lightning strikes. We took a hit on the power pole 150ft from the house the other day and that kept me off line for about three hours. Our little country co-op does an excellent job with keeping our lights lit and as it usually goes the little guy can sure teach the big guys a thing or two about what the word ‘service’ really means. These storms are crimping my ham radio time too. I unplug antennas when lightning is flying around and only leave the radios I want to replace plugged in which of course is real short list of zero. Keep your feet dry and your chin up sir! My best to you and ‘Super Suz’, take care and stay healthy. Best regards from the Red River Radio Bunker, Jay Walker

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY’S RADIO? WHERE IS RADIO HEADED? We want to know what is on your mind. Let’s start a radio revolution. Give us your opinion about today’s radio or whatever is on your mind at Rosekkkj@earthlink.net.
ED MILLER [ex OM/ND KPCN-730] (Austin, TX) Jim, In radio, two years was a lifetime, a whole career. When I was at KTLK in Denver back in the early 70’s, it was such a revolving door of us “radio bums” that after 90 days there, I had become the senior person on the staff, and by the time 120 days rolled around, I was gone too! I think I only lasted something like 5 months at KDSX in Sherman back in the mid 60’s. Those were certainly unsettled years, and make me glad to have finally made it into a home of my own for these past 15 years. Take care, and hope to see you soon. ~Ed
TRIVIA ANSWER: No, it is not Wink Martindale. Bill Cullen, who hosts the first TV Price is Right, hosts a total of 23 TV game shows, more than anyone else in broadcast history.
LYNN WOOLLEY [KTEM-1400 Talk host, former KRLD-1080, WFAA-570, KNOW-1490] (Temple-Killeen–Fort Hood, TX) Hang in there Jim! You’re one of the good guys!
CHARLTON HESTON (October 4, 1923 – April 5, 2008) Dirty Harry, for example, Clint Eastwood was not a rogue cop. He was a maverick cop, but he was a good guy.
