Breaking News Flash: Colt Records, award winning Nashville label is bringing Marvell
to Nashville in August to record two new songs by top songwriter Dennis DiChiaro.
God’s Divine Purpose church in Wildwood, FL was host to a first of its kind concert June 5, 2016. It was a time of great gospel music with some of the very best talent we have seen here in central Florida. The artists who sang their way into the hearts of the audience were James Marvell who was joined by his wife, Faye, Chuckie Ray Harrelson, LaRue (Rudy) Prescott, Lemuel Miller, and Faye’s daughter, Terri.
The featured artist was James Marvell. James was a former member of the 60s Pop group, Mercy, whose solid gold hit song in 1969 “Love Can Make You Happy” topped Billboard, CASHBOX and Record World second to the Beatles! Marvell has performed with many of Country Music’s finest legends. James committed his life to Jesus Christ in the 70s and loves singing for Jesus. His presence on stage is refreshingly full of charisma. Accompanied by his guitar, many of the songs have been written and composed by him, and they carry the message of Christ with beautiful melody and at times, foot-tapping rhythm.
James’ wife, Faye, blessed us with songs of worship and hope. She also sang with Marvell in duets which were well thought out and truly delightful to hear. She brought this congregation to a point of worship which is seldom seen in many gospel concerts.
LaRue (Rudy) Prescott, whose voice has been heard with several Southern Gospel quartets and as a gospel radio personality, opened the concert with songs from his just released ”live” album. Rudy’s bass-baritone is rich and sonorous. As a minister of the Gospel, he knew how to communicate well in a great choice of songs which touched us all.
A long-time country music entertainer throughout central Florida in civic clubs and nursing homes, Chuckie Ray Harrelson blessed the audience with several familiar gospel songs. Accompanied by Rudy, Chuckie Ray blessed our hearts as we even sang along with him.
Lemuel Miller, who has sung with such artists as the Gaither Vocal Band, Carmen, and Jesse Dixon, excited the group with three hand-clapping and foot-stomping songs. On one song he added a harmonica solo that elicited a rousing response. His is a voice one does not easily forget.
We really enjoyed the vocal contributions of Faye’s daughter Terri. Her vocal style and the songs she sang were a great blend with the message and a great contrast to the style of the concert. Truly, she is a gift to the Body of Christ. We asked Terri’s husband, Pedram, to address the congregation. He is an immigrant from Iran and a convert to Christ from Islam,. He gave a wonderful testimony that exalted the name and grace of our Lord.
The emcee for the evening was Dr. John Miller, the pastor of God’s Divine Purpose Church. He tied the concert together with words of exhortation and appropriate introductions of all the artists. The people of this church were very impressed with this concert. We plan to do more of these concerts, and we definitely plan to invite James Marvell and the other artists to return. We really want to do it again!
Marvell plans to perform the Official ICGMA Theme Song at the upcoming ICGMA Convention in Missouri this August. See recent video clip from James Marvell on the International TV program GOSPEL MUSIC TODAY at this link GOSPEL MUSIC TODAY_Features Official ICGMA Theme Song
