Rhonnie Scheuerman’s Inspiration Station For All In Need This Morning
When they said, “Let’s go to the house of God, my heart leaped for joy”- Psalm; 122: I
Author….. Jon Sweeney: I was traveling with a friend of mine in France, doing research for a book I was writing about Gothic architecture. We were driving to every village and city within a hundred-mile radius of Paris with a significant church to see. Not a bad way to spend a week in the summertime! I will always remember several of those magnificent churches, their bettresses and naves. But I will also remember an old man in one of them, late in the afternoon, all by himself.
I saw him fasten his bike to a lamppost in the courtyard outside the church as we were strolling around. He gave us a quick glance and hustled inside. I followed him. He was clearly the warden, responsible for maintenance and upkeep— everything from rearranging chairs after a service to picking flowers for the altar. He dusted the light bulbs of the simple chandelier above the altar as if he were washing a baby’ body.
My traveling companion spoke perfect French. He stopped the man and asked, “Sir is it your job- to care for this church?’
It is not my occupation, he responded , “It is my love. I am cleaning the courts of the Lord.”
God, I am like a man hungry and thirsty today, needing to be in Your holy presence.
