DAVE MICHAELS [former WSAI-1360/KONO-860/KBUC FM] (Dayton-Huber Heights, OH) Subject: JIM – radio is in my Blood YES – Oct 28th is my Birthday – Scorpio On the Gas – I am driving with a guy who owns an SUV; we will split the gas prices and the driving. You are correct about the Mileage! Maybe some FREE parts out of this trip. I have not been in Michigan for many years. Detroit is very depressed (City); LIBERALs ruined once the 5th Largest City in the USA. Car Making Capital. I like the Cities around the Great Lakes…aka Cleveland, Ohio. If I see an old Mic – I will grab it for my Buddy Jim. What would be neat is a – Photo of an Old metal Typewriter & A Mic next to each other at the top of your Stationary. I know you use a PC keyboard to type NOW – but back when – I am sure JIM used many real Typewriters to compose his Words. CORRECT? Dave

JIM MCCURDY [ex KORQ FM DJ, KTAB-TV news anchor] (Austin-Cedar Park, TX) Good news on Suzie Jim!! Wow, I have so many radio memories. The equipment I used was a Gates Executive board along with a RCA-77DX mic and an RCA 44-BX mic. Love those mics!! In fact, I have the original RCA 77-DX that I used when I first went on the air back in ’66. An engineer gave me the mic many years later with parts of it in a box. I had it rebuilt with all original parts by a company in Canada (they were all hand made), so it works like new. I still use it for some voice-over stuff that I do for various entities. It’s been a GREAT ride my friend! Best, Jim

JOHN WALTON [Walton & Johnson Show] (Houston-Brookshire, TX) Now that I’m attempting to train a whole new generation of young guys who think that personality radio is Howard asking women to “show me your boobs”…they ask me how I learned to do what I do. I tell them it all started when I was youngster growing up in Sun Valley (South Houston) listening to Hudson and Harrigan on KILT…Jimmy Rabbit and Russ Knight (the weird beard) with an ear bud late at night when I was supposed to be sleeping…when I was 12 my parents divorced and my mom moved me to Oklahoma…where as luck would have it, the only radio talents I could listen to were Ken & Granny, Paxton Mills and Dave Ambrose on KLIF…and at night I got Kris Erick Stevens and John Records Landecker on the Big 89 WLS Chicago…when I got my first part time job on KOMA in OKC…Charlie Tuna had just left. I found a huge cache of his old airchecks in the production room. I still have them…so I had a lot of good influences. With the technology available today…some of the young guys are going to be pretty good. I think we can save the baby yet.

JAY WALKER [CBS Radio Dallas/KJKK FM/Infinity KTSA-550/KTFM FM/Own Jay Walker Prod/Jay Walker Competitive Audio consultant 40 Plus Years In Radio] (Dallas-McKinney, TX) I’m up because my sleep schedule got messed up while fighting a bug. So I’m out here in the radio room listening to the ham radio in hopes my pal in Maine will pop up. If that fails I’ll spin the dial down to the AM band and see if there’s anything worth listening to. Not likely but there’s always hope… Jay

On Thursday June 9 as the CMA Fan Fest started. I began the morning signing autographs at The Lamon Records booth in the AT&T Fan Fair X Center downtown Nashville, next to the Country Music Hall of Fame.
I was greeted by fans, and friends. It was great fun getting interviewed on TV live and meeting all the wonderful people. Country Music fans are the best.
This was my 5th year at CMA Fan Fest “It is great to be in Nashville again and see so many stars, friends, and fans, Rose said and added, “There’s nothing like performing here.”
My hit song ” Girls Just Wanna Drink Beer” was #1 on the Top 20 Airplay Express Charts for June 2016, and #1 on the Top 200 charts just a week or two ago .

Reservation were made, and on the appointed day we all piled into our son Lyle’s van for the twenty-mile drive. Lively conversation as each passenger took great delight in teasing me about my advancing years, discussing all the challengers associated with aging.
About five miles down the road, an uncharacteristic lull descended on the conversation. At that point, Brent, our fifty – year-old son, suddenly broke the silence with a whinny “Are we there yet.”
A burst of laughter and then a stream of complaints followed, reminiscent of our family trips when the children were young. “I have to go to the bathroom.” “I need a drink of water.” ” I’m hungry!” “Mom , he’s teasing me again.” Dad, he’s hogging all the space.” Coming from these now middle-aged men, the comments created more ripples of laughter, until all too soon we were at our destination.
Back in those early days, we discovered that the way to maintain peace among impatient little travelers on a long trip was to keep them constantly occupied with quizzes and books and games and singing. A similar solution seems to work for us seniors and middle-aged folks. The busier we keep ourselves, the less time we have for murmuring and complaining on this long journey of life.
Father God keep me peacefully and joyfully focused on worthwhile activities until the day I reach my destination.
