The CMA Music Festival is in full swing and day two was a scorcher. Temps easily reached the low to mid 90’s. Add that to the hundreds of thousands of sweaty bodies, the lack of shade along with the abundance of blacktop, and you’ve got a whole lotta sweaty, gross, stinky bodies willing to brave it all for a glimpse of their favorite star and some great music.
We got a late start yesterday, thanks to the heat, but still managed to take in a few shows. Riverfront rocked with performances from Chase Bryant and Thompson Square. If you’ve never seen Chase Bryant, you’re missing out, especially if you’re a guitar enthusiast because he can really tear into on. Thompson Square is adorable as ever, and their quirky style made them even more fun to watch.Afterwards, we head over the Chevy Cruz stage to catch RaeLynn and Chuck Wicks before heading over to the HGTV Lodge to see Charles Kelley perform solo for fans. RaeLynn is adorable, and we can’t wait to see what music she’ll come up with next. Chuck Wicks, fresh from the Iron Man, has a great relationship with the crowd, looking at fans and getting personal with all those in eyesight.
The nightly concerts at Nissan Stadium were a showcase of unique talent. Frankie Ballard ripped through the National Anthem via electric guitar solo before iconic Clint Black took the stage to perform hits and new music. Chris Stapleton proved why he’s Male Vocalist of the year, and rightly so. His low-key set had the crowd on their feet singing along to every word.
Sam Hunt gave a show that I’m certain was fueled by an energy drink. He belted out hits like “House Party” and “Leave the Night On” while running around the massive stage and getting personal with the fans in the front. Eric Church, always a favorite, performed a much more understated set than years past, that was much too brief.
Before bringing out legend Hank Williams Jr., Chris Janson got the crowd ready to party with “Buy Me a Boat” and Justin Moore performing “You Look Like I Need a Drink.” Hank partied hard and brought Chris Janson back out, showing the younger fans who Bocephus really is.Carrie Underwood closed out the show with a rocking set that included “Smoke Break,” “Church Bells” and more!
