SAN ANTONIO JUDGE RESCUES IHEART MEDIA A San Antonio, TX lawyer for iHeartMedia pleads that threats of default notices that begin in early 2016 harms the company. In 2015 iHeartmedia has the worst stock return of any other publicly traded San Antonio company. State District Judge Cathleen Strykerpermanently blocks bondholders unhappy over a recent transfer of assets within iHeart’s radio, billboard and digital company from filing default notices against the company in connection with the transfer.
CBS DUMPS RADIO STATIONS Tim Pohlman who becomes market manager of CBS Radio’s seven radio station Chicago cluster in January 2016 brags: I made my first quarter numbers. In recent years, several of CBS Radio’s Chicago stations experience ad revenue slumps. But Pohlman seems to have a knack for making his ad sales numbers. Pohlman says the most probable scenario for a spinoff of CBS’s radio assets is most likely sometime early in 2017.

BEN HAROLD [ex KXOL-1360/KBUY-1540/WBAP-820/KENR-1070] (Knoxville, TN) Hi Jim, I just wanted to let JRRR readers (who have followed my turmoil over the last year or so) that my latest PET scan showed a “sparkle” where my original colon cancer had been. I’ve been about 9 months “free” and my oncologist’s nurse (who called Friday) indicates, although it has returned, it’s not substantial and he is considering additional “mop up” chemotherapy. He will be meeting with Becky and myself next week to go over all the results and options. I appreciate the kind words and prayers I received, previously, from my radio family at JRRR, so I kindly request additional prayers for this situation. I may be old, and beat to heck (from both broadcasting and the cancer), but this old dawg still has a LOT of fight left! Thank you all in advance. Ben Harold.

JAY WALKER (Dallas-McKinney, TX) [CBS Radio/KJKK FM/Infinity KTSA-550/KTFM FM/Own Jay Walker Prod/40 Plus Years In Radio] Subject: On my soapbox. There are not many who put the thought into their product like you do. That is why I enjoy reading your newsletter, there’s no BS or agenda. Another of my reads is Tom Taylor’s as he does a decent job with a broad range of coverage. National, and regional plus regulatory and general broadcast news. With millions of pages available online there’s a lot not worthy of common sense HAHA. Jay

CHUCK DUNAWAY [ex WABC-770, WKY-930, KILT-610, KLIF-1190] (Houston-Katy, TX) Subject: us guys. As it happens for us all the time…a simple night out turned “extra” special…no brag, just fact…last night Kendall and I went to a comedy show at the Improve and as fate has it we sat next to an astronaut…his name is Clayton Anderson…Google him if you like. He spent 150 days on the international space station. At any rate that kind of good karma is our stock and trade in the Dunaway household…love it. Chuck
TRIVIA ANSWER: On May 20, 1920 The Canadian Marconi Company’s XWA (Experimental Wireless Apparatus) in Montréal gives what it claims to be the first scheduled radio broadcast in North America, and quite possibly in the world.
JOAN PATE-DAY [late Sam Pate’s sister] (Cedar Creek Lake, TX) Subject: 61 years and holding. Come May 14 my Bill and I will be married 61 years. The night of our wedding all we could afford was a hamburger, fries and a Weber’s Root Beer. We made a vow to have that exact meal each year on our Anniversary. So far we have made it. This year was close as I had three heart attacks, one respiratory failure. The desire for that burger made me try harder to recover. My Bill worked for the railroad and in his off time drove the news unit with the letters across the top for K.L.I.F-1190.
SOCRATES (469-399 BC) My advice to you is to get married. If you find a good wife, you’ll be happy; if not, you’ll become a philosopher.
