Ell’s new single “By the Way” has charged out of the gate in a huge way.
The music video for Lindsay Ell’s flirty, lemons-to-lemonade break-up anthem “By The Way” premieres exclusively across CMT platforms today. Directed by Desmond Desmarais, the Stoney Creek Records guitar chanteuse shot the video while on tour, making use of beautiful, sunny landscapes that serve as the perfect juxtaposition to the saucy swan song.
The light-hearted, up-tempo number indeed puts an unconventional spin on the typical break-up song. Cleverly referring to ex-flames as “Mr. Cowboy Boots” and “Mr. Baseball Cap” Ell reminds them just how quickly her heart can rebound, even crediting them for helping her meet Mr. Right (i.e. “Mr. Pick-Up Truck”).
Ell’s new single “By the Way” has charged out of the gate in a huge way. The song debuted as the #1 Most Added Song at U.S. Country Radio and shot into the Top 10 at iTunes Country upon its release. Last month, CMT’s Next Women of Country presented Ell’s 24-hour “Busking on Broadway” event which raised thousands of dollars in tips for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. Ell braved torrents of rain and cold temperatures throughout the event brought to Middle Tennessee by Hurricane Joaquin. With her gear wrapped in plastic, her set list destroyed by rain and her feet engulfed in puddles, Ell performed for 24-hours straight on Nashville’s famed Lower Broadway.

When The Cat Is Away The Mice Will Play In This Case The Mice Is a Device Called a Mouse
The Music City Ghost [File #75] 2015: Songwriters have depended on companies like Broadcast Music Incorporated to collect their royalties for a long time. The BMI Locations are in Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, London, Atlanta, Miami, and Puerto Rico. BMI was founded by radio executives as a non-profit, BMI now boasts more than 650,000 members. According to its website, “BMI is the bridge between songwriters and the businesses and organizations that play their music publicly…BMI serves as an advocate for the value of music, representing 8.5 million musical works created and owned by more than 650,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers.” Every article I have read in the last year concerning terrestrial radio indicates that radio as we know it is about to disappear. Who is going to become the new police man? If radio will depend on a URL with 24/7 streaming that may or may not have a Disk Jockey working there, then who will police or monitor the activity? There is an old saying that when the cat is away the mice will play. In this case the mice is a device called a MOUSE. If you have a computer you can be the proud owner of a radio station broadcasting to the world by way of the INTERNET. With the click of a mouse you can announce your favorite song and play what you want, when you want, and as often as you want. I personally don’t see any way of monitoring every computer that is playing music worldwide. The outlook is grim for songwriter revenue. The performing rights organizations such as BMI, ASCAP, and SESAC which were the big CATS monitoring all this airplay have got their hands full and are scrambling to come up with a solution.

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
Our self-image is formed early on, based on feedback from parents, teachers and other authority figures—and changing it isn’t easy. It doesn’t come from inspiration (or perspiration), but from letting the Holy Spirit transform you. How? ‘By…renewing…your mind.’ Recalling when his boys were young, one preacher says they were playing with a toy lorry, complete with the sounds of grinding gears and roaring engines. ‘I didn’t pay much attention as I unwound from the day’s stresses. Distractedly, I glanced down and noticed the boys were now running an airplane down an imaginary runway. ‘What happened to the lorry?’ I asked. ‘Daddy, this is a transformer. It can be transformed into whatever we want!’ they explained. God made the first transformer. He created man in such a way that He could pull a woman out of him. From one creative act God transformed the man into a marriage, the marriage into a family, and the family into a society. He never reached back into the ground again because the power to transform was intrinsically placed in man. All kinds of potential are locked into your spirit. And for the Christian, transformation at its optimum is the outworking of the internal. God placed certain things in you that must come out…and when you’re tired of trying to unlock your own resources, allow Him to release in you the power to become whatever you need to be.’ ‘But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God’ (John 1:12). Christ empowers us to slip out of who we were forced to be, and transforms us into who He created us to be.
Heavenly Father, help me to stop trying to change myself and simply get out of the way and let You change and transform me,
In Jesus’ Name Amen
