The Trips And Perks of  being The “Diamond of the Decade”

Diamond“Diamond of the Decade”
In the last update, I wrote that I was interviewed on March 11th by KC Armstrong on both WRNW1 (Women’s Radio Network) and I ♥ Radio on which I was named by them as “Diamond of the Decade” in view of my many accomplishments in recent years, not the least of which was procuring a Patent & Name registration for my Bandana hats on my own without an Atty., plus still releasing original songs to worldwide radio.  This prompted me to update my website, with this great news.  It hadn’t been updated for years! Click on link at top of page to check it out! They gave me 4 30 min. radio shows in April & May.  Other perks came recently.  They made a 60 second commercial which will play on both their stations; started on June 22 and will continue daily until Aug. 11th! Also coming to me is a plaque, with both titles “Diamond of the Decade” and “Woman of the Year in Music”.   I have an MP3 of the Commercial that I can send in anemail if you’d like to hear it.

Voting is now until Aug 12th – Awards show is in Sept. It is strictly fan-driven …. You can vote once a day ….  Would truly appreciate your votes.  It’s really easy too.  You just go to their website (Click here) Click on middle picture, shows Faith Hill but says “vote for female vocalist”  When you click on her picture, it takes you to the page where you vote, scroll down a bit and you’ll see a picture of me when younger (have no idea where they found it!) Click on my name & it is automatically inserted into the voting window,   You then just click on the “vote” button & you’re done.  You are then taken back  where you can click on the picture (2nd row, 1st pic on left) where it says  “vote for Songwriter of the Year”.  Click there, then scroll down a bit until you see same young pic of  w/ no make up (Yikes!), where you click on my pic as explained above to vote for me as “Songwriter of the Year”. Thanks in advance!  My page at Clay Country Radio site.  You can get to the voting here also!

Judy Weldens’s 2 SUMMER TRIPS – Worthington, PA & New Orleans, LA

Cousin Shirl & me at the Hard Rock Cafe in Pgh, PA

Vehicle that took us on land & water – “Just Ducky” tour in Pgh

Me w/ school chums Paula (Walker) Feger & Loretta (Weaver) Dougherty.

I had a great time while in PA June 14th to 25th.  I’d gone for my old home town’s all school Reunion.  Called Worthington West Franklin, it had closed in 1984 and now is a Civic Center and a place to hold Reunions of the classses since 1934.  Anyone who is still alive is invited to go! ;  ). It was super fun & memorable… as was the day my cousin Shirley (with whom I stayed) & I spent in Pgh, PA  on the Just Ducky tour and seeing a play called ‘BUYER & CELLAR’.  I had nice times with good memories driving  around the small, surrounding towns & farms where I used to live and also had a great time when my brother & cousins + spouses went out to eat to celebrate our birthdays, which were fairly close together in the past months. Trip was special and very relaxing too!  The only damper was when my cousin’s little doggie passed on after being sick the first few days I was there.  We visited Shirl’s son, Todd, whose son Josh has a python.  Believe it or not I actually petted it

Birthday dinner with brother John & cousins: left to right - cousin Larry Strobel, wife Marilyn, neighbor Alberta, Me, brother John, wife Susan, cousin Shirley and Mary Huggins.

From Aug 14th to Aug 24th I’ll be in New Orleans, LA… the 1st 4 days at the 5*

Char & I were in a band together when I lived in FL. Hope to sing (Karaoke) in NO, LA

Marriott for my 1st Dream Trip, going with FL friend, Char, also a member.  This trip cost just $164 & includes a dinner cruise, when using some points I had in my member pkg.  Then the rest of the week I’ll be staying in the French quarter….a block from where the Marriott is….in a lovely apt with cousin Shirley, her friend, Beverly during the week…and my daughter Amy that weekend.  I needed/wanted to stay there after the Dream Trip since I’m sure they’ll keep us busy and I’d not have a chance to see my grandaughter Angie, who lives there.  She sings and dances in her job, traveling to various cities with her troupe.  I hope to get to see her perform while there.  Hope to send pics when I return home.

Th esong is also played once a day 365 days a year on WCTR Wildhorse christmas Time Radio where Judy has the honor of being one of WCTR’s  Chritsmas Time Heroes.

Talented young man in my town Zak Hodges – known as XAK

I met Zak last month at the Sofa Sessions (for local songwriters) we have monthly here in Gainesville GA @ the John Jacobs building the 2nd Tues of each month, hosted by Bruce Burch, Ex Dir. @ Brenau University, who’s written #1 songs for the likes of Reba McIntyre & other well known country superstars!  I’ve been singing two of my originals at these sessions as has Zak, but I didn’t get to meet him until the last session.  We’ve been in conact and though he is just 16, he is ‘a natural’ when it comes to songwriting… plus is a fantastic guitar player and a singer with his own style.  I’m sure he will go far!!  You can hear his songs at: Zak’s link where he is currently #1 for this area in his genre!  Hear him at  also.

“Til next time, keep on shinin’ ”   Hugs, Judy

Comments always welcome

JACK PARNELL [former Program Director WHBQ-560] (Memphis, TN) Subject: Female Radio DJ. Jim: Very interesting about Shana…sorry to hear of her passing. I’m sure she must have been the first female dj in a major market, but in 1954 Anita Wood began her radio career as a teenage dj at WTJS in Jackson, TN. She even travelled around to other areas to talk to other girls about how to become a dj (we were called announcers then!). She later came to a station in Memphis, and for a short time she was co-host on Top Ten Dance Party with Wink Martindale on WHBQ-TV, channel 13 here. She then became Elvis’ girlfriend and quit radio completely. She and Elvis were companions for about 5 or 6 years. Jack Parnell-Memphis, TN. formerly with WHBQ Radio

JAY WALKER [CBS Radio Dallas/KJKK FM/Infinity KTSA-550/KTFM FM] (Ft. Worth-McKinney, TX) Hi Jim Yes Gary/Larry was more than “smug”. The only favor he did me was fire me back when I really needed that kick to my formerly very large ego. I recall behind his back we use to call him “Mr. Rogers” because he always wore slacks, button down short sleeve shirts and those goofy canvas shoes like Mr. Rogers wore. A very “straight lace” guy that was probably the most “uncool” person I knew in the 70’s. But his firing me when I was at the age of 18 did cause me to turn my head around and enjoy another 40 years in radio. I had an large ego back then as I’d already worked mornings and in a top 25 market before I was 18. Granted it was over-night, but it was what it was… Take care!! Jay

JAY WEAVER [KLBK-Lubbock, TX; KBUY-1540; KPCN-730] (DFW-Hurst, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio. Hi Jim – Haven’t written you in awhile, but not because I don’t want to. Just hasn’t been much going on here. I noticed that the e-mail that I used to get twice a week alerting me that I had received my personal notice that that day’s issue of “Jim Rose Remembers Radio” was in my inbox hasn’t come to me lately. I’ve had to look for it, instead. So – that reminds me that it’s time for the dues I owe. Do you have PayPal? If so, I need the correct e-mail address for your PayPal account. I not, please give me your address so I can drop my dues in the mail to you. Thank you, Jim for what you do. What you actually do is keep me ”in” radio!! TRIVIA ANSWER: In February 1935, during the Charles Lindburgh’s infant son kidnapping trial, WNEW-1130 New York City announcer Martin Block begins to spin phonograph records during breaks in the trial. Most radio stations usually broadcast live orchestras during breaks. Once the trial is complete, Block’s record show, Make Believe Ballroom, continues on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:15 to 11:30am. Soon, it grows to 90 minutes a day. Later, most of WNEW-1130’s schedule becomes recorded music.

DAVE MICHAELS [WSAI-1360/KONO-860/KBUC FM] (NYC, NY) Subject: Saturday in NYC. Jim: Don’t know what YOU did! But I have received on my Lap Top your JRRR #1426 all Complete. I have done NOTHING to any of our Computers. Hot here & humid. Dave

Rhon’s Early Morning Inspiration For Monday

RhonsInspirationDaily2014MaritzOriginalLetters2013mondayRhonnie Scheuerman’s Early Morning Inspiration For All In Need Of Some

Be a Peacemaker

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9

Jesus spent much of His ministry tearing down barriers and building bridges. He did it through acts of love such as washing the feet of those who would fail and betray Him, eating with a tax collector everybody in town despised, and giving hope to a fallen woman that society condemned. The Bible says, ‘Peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness’ (James 3:18). Words of peace are like seeds. They don’t produce fruit overnight, but slowly and silently they work their way to the surface, changing hearts, minds, attitudes and futures. Doctor Robert Oppenheimer, the noted physicist who masterminded the first atomic bomb, was asked by a congressional committee if there was any defense against it. Addressing a hushed audience he replied, ‘Yes—peace!’ Now, if peace can defuse an atomic bomb, think what it can do in the lives of the people you come in contact with! Jesus said, ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God.’ Every day you’ll meet frightened, despairing, lonely, angry people who need a word of peace. Do you have one? Solomon offers us three ways to calm strife, defuse a tense situation, and get a better result: 1) Patience. ‘A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel’ (Proverbs 15:18). 2) Self-control. ‘Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city’ (Proverbs 16:32). 3) Wisdom. ‘A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offence’ (Proverbs 19:11).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be that person who sows seeds of peace in a world that is angry. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
