Kenny Chesney’s Big Revival Tour kicked off last night in Nashville and he kept fans partying until after midnight with a set that lasted over 3 hours! Kicking off the party were Chase Rice and Jake Owen. Jake isn’t new to the big stage and there was not an empty seat in the house when his bare feet and smokin’ hot new haircut took the stage for his always high energy set!
Kenny – clad in a dark sleeveless Grace Potter and the Nocturnals t-shirt – hit Nashville like a house a-fire. From the opening of the New Orleans funeral drum corps/street preacher noir film until the last ringing note of Joe Walsh’s hard-charging “All Night Long,” the East Tennessean showed how much he missed the fans since he walked offstage after two sold-out nights at Foxboro’s Gillette Stadium in 2013. In a 36 song set that took 13 songs to get to a ballad, the 8-time Entertainer of the Year relentlessly moved across the stage, held the center, engaged the fans and delivered the kind of impassioned performance that made Chesney the only Country Artist on Billboard’s Top 10 Touring Acts of the Last 25 Years. Opening with “Drink It Up” from his 13th #1 The Big Revival, the show was a romp featuring not just his hits but many of his guests’ best loved songs.
Taylor Swift took the stage as the living embodiment of everything Chesney’s girl-with-a-dream “Big Star” represents, singing hard and showing off an explosive power in her delivery. As the song swung into its final verse, the pair swept a young girl out of the audience and with a nod to the future, let her help sing the final chorus.
That spirit of friendship permeated. Grace Potter emerged from the shadows, providing yearning harmonies on the current single “Wild Child.” She would return to kick-off the night’s six-song encore, just Chesney and a pair of guitars on the yearning “You & Tequila.” Uncle Kracker reprised the pair’s six week #1, “When the Sun Goes Down,” then performed his breakthrough “Follow Me” and the 28-week Adult Contemporary #1 cover of Dobie Gray’s “Drift Away.”
There were redneck songwriters – David Lee Murphy, who wrote “Living In Fast Forward,” “Pirate Flag,” “Flora-Bama,” performed his #1 “Dust on the Bottle,” as well as “Party Crowd” from his gold 1994 debut Out With A Bang. There were Rock and Roll Hall of Famers – Joe Walsh, who not only led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to the headliner, but scorched “Rocky Mountain Way,” “Life in the Fast Lane,” “All Night Long” and “Life’s Been Good” with a ferocity that scalded the AOR classics.
There were nakedly intimate moments: Chesney and guitar on his signature “Old Blue Chair,” alone in a spotlight on the thrust with only Wyatt Beard on keyboards for the multiple week #1 “There Goes My Life.” For “Anything But Mine,” the paean to a summer love, so many fans held lighters and cell phones with flames aloft, the crowd was almost brighter than the stage.
“Rock Bottom” hit hard. Later newcomer Harmoni Kelley McCarty’s feverish take on AC/DC’s “Whole Lotta Rosie” exploded into the GRAMMY-nominated “American Kids.”
Kenny is a huge sell out when it comes to tours, having no problem selling out stadiums all over. Stadium shows to me, are not as much fun normally. They usually leave the fans feeling a sense of disconnect because of the massive space between the artists and the fans. But I must admit, after seeing many different artists perform on that stage in Nashville over the years Bridgestone Arena didn’t feel large enough to hold what Kenny Chesney gave to his fans last night.
With two sold-out Bridgestone Arena shows starting his The Big Revival 2015 Tour, Chesney is already leaning into summer with a vengeance. His Corona Light sponsored tour finds him playing 55 dates, including 22 stadiums between now and the end of August – and it looks like the manThe Wall Street Journal called “The King of the Road” has no plans to secede his crown.
“That crowd was awesome,” Chesney enthused. “Talk about the greatest birthday present! Hearing them sing those songs back at me: it’s why the No Shoes Nation rocks. Nobody loves music like they do, and I am always amazed by how hard they throw that energy at us.”
Kenny plays Bridgestone Arena again tonight before moving on to Columbia, S.C., Saturday.

Two of country music’s biggest icons are teaming up (again) for a brand new album. Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson are set to release a brand new collaborative effort, Django and Jimmie, which will be their fourth studio record together.
Nelson visited Jimmy Kimmel Live as part of a series of events with South by Southwest (SXSW) last Friday (March 21), and it was there that — in between jokes about one of his favorite pastimes (Hint: it involves smoke and some illegal activity) — the Red Headed Stranger announced his latest album with Haggard.
While there’s no news of the album’s release date, Nelson did tell host Jimmy Kimmel that the first single will be released on April 20. It’s a date that matches up with that favorite pastime of Nelson’s, not to mention key lyrics from new track.
“It’s all going to pot, whether we like it or not,” Nelson sings in the interview clip. “As far as I can tell the world’s gone to hell, and we’re sure gonna miss it a lot. All of the whiskey in Lynchburg, Tenn. just couldn’t hit the spot. I’ve got $100 bill you can keep them pills friend ’cause it’s all going to pot.”
Well, we know what at least one of the new songs is about, and while details related to the theme of the rest of the album haven’t yet been revealed, fans of Haggard and Nelson will know what the title means. French guitar player Django Reinhardt is a longtime muse of Nelson, with the country singer citing Reinhardt as an inspiration for the tone of his famous guitar, Trigger, and covering his song “Nuages” many times during his decades-long career. As for the “Jimmie” part of Django and Jimmie, it likely refers to Haggard’s love of country pioneer Jimmie Rodgers, whom he paid homage to with a 1969 tribute album, Same Train, A Different Time.
Haggard has also expressed excitement about the album recently, noting that it follows he and Nelson’s 1983 release Pancho & Lefty, their 1987 collaboration, Seashores of Old Mexico and their 2007 album, Last of the Breed, which was also in partnership with Ray Price.
“It’s really good; I think it’s the best one we’ve done,” says Haggard of the new record. “We didn’t really do any swing, per se, we just did straight-ahead songs that we felt good about.”
Along with the new record, Haggard and Nelson are set to play three sold-out shows at the Whitewater Amphitheater in New Braunfels, Texas on Mar. 26-28.

The longer you struggle with adverse circumstances, the darker the way before you appears-and the harder it is to imagine yourself walking along bright paths again. The temptation is to just give up and let misery become your companion. So it is crucial at such times to remember that I am your constant Companion. Moreover, because I am Sovereign God, I am able to turn your darkness into Light.
When you feel on the verge of sinking in despair, turn to Me for help. Cling to My hand, and walk by faith through the darkness. Do not focus on the circumstances that are weighing you down. Instead, through eyes of faith, look ahead to brighter times, and praise Me for them. While you worship Me in the midst of darkness, I enable you to see the first gleam of dawn on the path before you. Continue walking worshipfully with Me-a walk of faith. As you persevere along this path, the dim light will gradually shine brighter and brighter till the full light of day.
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners. -Isaiah 61:1
You are my lamp, O Lord; the Lord turns my darkness into light. -2 Samuel 22:29
The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full lights of day. -Proverbs 4:18
