Bob Dylan made headlines with a remarkable and wide-ranging speech recently, but now he’s clarifying some of what he said.
The legendary singer-songwriter gave an epic speech during his recent MusiCares Person of the Year ceremony, taking the opportunity to share his views on some fellow musicians he seemingly felt had slighted him, including Tom T. Hall and Merle Haggard.
He said Haggard “didn’t even think much of my songs. I know he didn’t … Buck Owens did, and he recorded some of my early songs … Buck Owens or Merle Haggard? If you had to have somebody’s blessing, you can figure it out.”
Haggard, for his part, disputed Dylan’s assessment via Twitter.
“Bob Dylan, I’ve admired your songs since 1964,” he wrote. “‘Don’t Think Twice’ Bob, Willie [Nelson] and I just recorded it on our new album.”
In a new interview with veteran journalist Bill Flanagan on Dylan’s website, the music icon says his remarks about Haggard were not intended in a negative way.
“I wasn’t dissing Merle, not the Merle I know,” he clarifies. “What I was talking about happened a long time ago, maybe in the late ’60s. Merle had that song out called ‘Fighting Side of Me’ and I’d seen an interview with him where he was going on about hippies and Dylan and the counter culture, and it kind of stuck in my mind and hurt, lumping me in with everything he didn’t like. But of course times have changed and he’s changed too … He’s a complete man and we’re friends these days. We have a lot in common.”

Congratulations to all the Independent Artists who made it to our, Wildhorse Country Download Chart for February 2015. If you are featured on this chart then your songs have been downloaded hundreds of times to qualify for a position on this chart show. Our download chart show is unique and a one of a kind chart show, as all songs are positioned on this chart strictly on the amount of downloads each song gets on Wildhorse Entertainment.
Wayne Jacobs has had half a dozen #1 over the past few years, but this could be his greatest one of all. ‘In Cold Blood” has moved into the #1 spot with record speed. It is however a very well known fact that Wayne has an anormous following in the UK and they have no doubt supported him very well as all loyal fans would do. However this just happens to also be a really good song and like they say, “The fans have spoken”, Wayne Jacobs is our #1 this month on Wildhorse Independent Superstars Top 30 Country Download Chart for February 2015
[#2] Independent Superstar Dave Caley with his Country Rock hit, “Let It Roll” moves up into the #2 spot this week. Dave has had many songs on the charts over the years and is no stranger to the Top 5. Dave works really hard at his career and will always go the extra mile for his fans, and we can see that right here on the Top 5. All we can say to you Dave is “Let It Roll”
[#3] One of the greatest independent Country Superstars of today, T. Jae Christian moves gently and smoothly, up one position with his beautiful duet with another Independent Superstar, Mary lee, called “Ain’t We Sad Today”. Settling comfortably into the #3 position this month.
[#4] Chris Loid sadly vacates the #1 slot this week as he moves into the #4 slot with a song written by Ed Dailey called “She Loves A Memory More than Me” Chris has had a really good run with this song and by the looks of it “She Loves A Memory More than Me” is set to continue running for some time to come.
[#5] “Tattoo Billy” takes another few steps down to the #5 spot this month with their huge former #1 hit “Give Me A Heart” a beautiful slow ballade performed wonderfully by Tattoo Billy. It is amazing the amount of support this band gets and the proof is right here on the Top5. We are all still trying to come to terms with the death of Hurstel the lead singer of the band as he was much-loved and now equally missed by so many fans worldwide.
Well that’s our Top 5, the full Top 30 is available at http://www.wildhorse.co.za for you to download if you so wish.
Last month we announced that we were to make big changes to our Top 30, however the listeners quickly let us know they don’t want changes, they want a unique Top 30 where all the songs are available for free download. The artists also felt it not fair that they give their songs as free downlaods while including songs that are not made available as free download. So as we mean to please we decided that the listeners and the artists were right, no question about it. So it is official, the TOP 30 stays based on the amount of downloads each song gets during a full calendar month. That way this chart remains the only chart of its kind on this planet.
If there are any radio stations out there who wish to air our Chart Show please contact us at email@example.com for links to download our monthly chart show.
