Congratulations too to Wayne Jacobs – who was the winner of our Listeners’ Club Song Award for his song “In Cold Blood”. The song, one of dozens of original songs written by the East London-based writer, tells the story of a homeless man, shot dead on the streets of Nashville.
Receiving the Award for the third year running, Wayne said, “I’m really touched. I can’t believe it. I wrote the song ‘In Cold Blood’ about a homeless man. It’s a sad song. I just sang it from the heart and had it produced in Nashville and I’m just over the moon”.
This all happened at our Seventh Birthday Party And Awards on Saturday 13th September at the Best Western Premier Yew Lodge Hotel at Kegworth near Derby and it really was a fantastic night.
Guests were treated to a three-course dinner, celebrating our first seven years of broadcasting, and entertainment from an array of artists.

FRACKVILLE, Pa. (AP) – A man serving life in prison for killing a Philadelphia police officer in 1981 has been selected as a commencement speaker at his Vermont alma mater.
Goddard College, a liberal arts college in Plainfield with 600 students, says on its website that Mumia Abu-Jamal’s recorded remarks will be played Sunday at a commencement, along with a video about him.
Bob Kenny, the school’s interim president, is quoted on the website as saying the graduates’ selection of Abu-Jamal reflects “their freedom to engage and think radically and critically in a world that often sets up barriers to do just that.”
Abu-Jamal was originally sentenced to death for killing Officer Daniel Faulkner on Dec. 9, 1981, but he was resentenced to life in 2012. He graduated from Goddard in 1996.
His claims that he’s been victimized by a racist justice system have attracted international support, and a radio show, documentaries and books have helped publicize his case. Abu-Jamal is a former Black Panther; the officer was white.
The Vermont Troopers’ Association said Tuesday that including Abu-Jamal in the commencement shows “an absolute disregard” for Faulkner’s family.
“While our nation is searching for solutions to gun violence in our schools and communities, we are outraged that Goddard College is hosting a man who shot and killed a police officer,” the group in a written statement.
Pennsylvania Corrections Secretary John Wetzel said he’s “disdainful” of Goddard’s decision to choose Abu-Jamal, who is housed at the Mahanoy state prison in Frackville.
“Police officers put their lives on the line every day to protect society and now we have a college allowing an individual convicted of murdering a police officer to share his opinions with impressionable students. This fact is very troubling,” he said.
“Inmates do have a constitutional right to access telephones,” Wetzel said. “While we do not support or endorse this specific type of activity, we cannot prohibit it from happening.”
Goddard holds 20 commencement ceremonies every year, so students in each degree program can individualize their graduations and choose their speaker. Students who are receiving bachelor of arts or fine arts degrees Sunday chose Abu-Jamal, who received a bachelor’s degree from Goddard in 1996.
Twenty of the 23 students who are receiving arts degrees are expected to attend the ceremony.
Goddard students design their own curriculums with faculty advisers and do not take tests or receive grades, said college spokesman Dustin Byerly.

HOW IS YOUR COMMUTE THIS MORNING? If you are NBC TV’s Today host like Matt Lauer you have a joyful private helicopter ride back and forth to work. A source informs the Post: NBC News chiefs want to do everything to keep Matt happy. They believe Today has turned a corner and he is the key to its continuing success. They agreed to pay for his helicopter flights to the Hamptons and back, so he can spend more time with his family. Each morning when you’re stuck in back-to-back traffic on the freeway, how’s about a private helicopter lift you out of that mire for a nice speedy journey to work and back home?

TRIVIA ANSWER: In 1967, a Jazz oriented Rock band The Big Thing forms in Chicago, IL. Their first album lists them as Chicago Transit Authority but after the city of Chicago threatens to sue them, Chicago Transit Authority shortens its name to just Chicago. After Chicago scores four Top 10 hit singles, their first half million selling single is Saturday in the Park (#3-1972). Although Chicago sells millions of record albums they only have three #1 singles: If You Leave Me Now (1976), Hard to Say I’m Sorry (1982) and Look Away (1988).
TONY WILLIAMS [KRLD-1080] (Dallas-Richardson, TX) Subject: Max Morgan. ‘In a separate incident on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 KDFW TV sports anchor Max Morgan, 59, enters Methodist Richardson Medical Center with congestive heart failure.’ Jim, I’m sure you already know that Max died. He brought presence, friendliness, and enthusiasm to his sports reports. Tony

Nancy Jones, the wife of the late country music icon, George Jones, visited with John Harmon (of H and J Foods, LLC and a licensee of Zaxby’s Franchising Inc.) in Franklin, TN earlier this week to deliver an assortment of must-see, fan favorite memorabilia from the Father of Country Music’s personal collection. Items were presented for display at the Zaxby’s restaurant located on Murfreesboro Road in Franklin (where Mr. and Mrs. Jones frequented as a local favorite). The specialty items included an assortment of historical photographs, a one-of-a-kind poster and an autographed guitar.
“George and I dined here together quite often and I still do,” Mrs. Jones said. “The atmosphere lends itself well to the country music, family-friendly format and to tradition. I’m confident patrons who are long-time George Jones’ fans will enjoy the items, while serving as a wonderful introduction to the history of country music and making new fans.”
“Mrs. Jones’ thoughtfulness is humbling,” added Zaxby’s franchise owner John Harmon. “George and Nancy were welcomed faces as ‘regulars’ and prominent in bringing our community; we hope they felt right at home as part of our family.”
Nancy Jones also has plans to donate items to Harmon’s second Zaxby’s franchise, located at 1108 Hillsboro Road Franklin, TN 37064, with intensions to showcase items at other Zaxby’s franchises in the coming weeks. (Additional locations to be announced.) The mutual relationship was facilitated by So Good! Entertainment (Jeff Goodwin and Suzzane Skinner)–a premiere agency specializing in marketing, production, music and events (Nashville, TN).

Enter My gates with thanksgiving and My courts with praise. A thankful heart is a joyful heart, and this is what I want for you. When you neglect the sacrifices of thanksgiving, your soul suffers.
Many of My children who live in impoverished nations are more joyful than Christians in rich countries with material abundance. Even the greatest blessings can fail to bring Joy unless they are received with gratitude.
I am training you to thank Me not only for obvious blessings but also for situations you would never have chosen-a wayward child or spouse; loss of health, home, or employment. This is counterintuitive thankfulness, and it is possible only to the extent that you trust Me at a deep level. It is also a matter of self-discipline: willing yourself to thank Me even when your circumstances are screaming at you to find a way out. Though it is wise to look for ways to improve your situation, you cannot force My hand-or My timing. Just keep coming into My Presence with thanksgiving. Your persistent thankfulness may actually provide the long-awaited key I will use to unlock major difficulties in your life. Giving thanks to Me can open doors in ways that transcend your understanding.
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. -Psalm 100:4-5”
Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare His works with rejoicing. -Psalm 107:21-22 nkjv
You now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you. -John 16:22 nkjv
