George Strait Golf Tournament Raises Record Amount for Wounded Military Personnel
George Strait‘s fourth annual Vaqueros del Mar Invitational Golf Tournament and Auction raised a record $550,000 to benefit wounded military personnel. Strait and Texas businessman Tom Cusick hosted the event, which took place at Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort & Spa in Boerne, Texas, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25 -26. The event benefits Feherty’s Troops First Foundation, which provides assistance to military members who have been wounded serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. Strait and Cusick first held the event in 2011. Over the course of four years, they have raised a total of $1.1 million for their cause. This year’s event included a Western Gala and live auction, along with music from Josh Grinder Band, Reckless Kelly, Asleep at the Wheel, Jamey Johnson, Dean Dillon and Keith Gattis. Strait wrapped things up on Sunday evening with a rare live performance, since he retired from active touring in June at the end of his farewell the Cowboy Rides Away Tour .

Swedish Country Artist Hicks Sets Music Row Chart Record With “Hayride”
MTS Management Group would like to congratulate Hicks on becoming the first Swedish country artist to reach the Music Row Country Breakout Chart’s Top 80 published chart. Hick’s single, “Hayride” (MTS Records) climbs 6 spots this week, coming in at #80. The track, co-written by Hicks and Lasse Andersson, comes in ahead of releases by Jana Kramer, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Ricky Skaggs with Sharon White. Released in July, “Hayride” is Hicks’ debut US single. View the current Music Row chart at http://www.musicrow.com/wp-content/CBOcharts/CBOChart.pdf.
“We are so proud of Hicks and ‘Hayride, We knew we had a great release from the first time we heard this track “, Michael Stover of MTS.
While Hicks has received alot of accolades and attention overseas, as a British CMA Award Winner, he was a relatively unknown commodity here in the US. So, we would like to thank radio for taking a chance on a Scandinavian artist, with international appeal. Breaking down a barrier is always gratifying, and I’m so happy that we are a part of it. I hope that Hicks opens a floodgate for talented artists from overseas to hit the mainstream country radio charts. Thanks also, to our wonderful promotions team, for believing in this track, and doing what it takes to make it a successful release. And, of course, thank you to the fans for supporting our artists, by requesting the song on radio. We can’t do it without you!”
Hicks (Miqael Persson) is an accomplished songwriter from the south of Sweden, with multiple Gold and Platinum records to his credit. His rock-edged songs have been recorded by artists like Jimi Jamison (Survivor), Giant (Dann Huff), Bobby Kimball (Toto), Little River Band, W.E.T. (Featuring Jeff Scott Soto), Grammy nominated Toby Hitchcock and Grammy winner, Barbados. He has also written with Nashville heavy-hitters like Anthony Smith, Dallas Rogers, Dennis Morgan and Sharon Vaughn. He was named the 2013 British CMA Award Winner for Best European Country Act, and is nominated for the 2014 BCMA Awards, too. For more information, visit http://www.hickscountry.com.

PhantomFocus™ System Stuns At PotLuck Audio Conference (PotLuckCon)
CRAS instructor Paul Richards experiencing the PhantomFocus™ System (PFS™) at the SSL casita during PotLuckCon
Nashville, TN: Solid State Logic (SSL) hosted TEC Award-Winning studio designer Carl Tatz and the PhantomFocus™ System (PFS™) in their SSL demo suite featuring the AWS 924 console at the 2014 PotLuck Audio Conference at the fabulous El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort in Tucson, Arizona. Audio professionals from across the country gathered in this bucolic desert setting to take in the many expert panels, workshops and gear demonstrations presented at the annual event.
“We’re grateful to SSL and PotLuckCon principal Craig Shumacher for supporting our effort to bring the PhantomFocus System experience to those who may have heard or read about the system but have not had the opportunity to sit in its sweet spot. In this case, one listen takes the place of a thousand reviews,” comments Carl Tatz, principal of Carl Tatz Design and creator of the PhantomFocus System.
Among the distinguished attendees who had the chance to experience the PFS for the first time were engineer/producer Mike Caffrey; Mark Christensen, head mastering engineer and owner at NYC’s Engine Room Audio studios; PureWave Audio and Allusion Studios owner Jim Pavett; Vintage King Audio’s Alex Oana; FOX Sports Audio Consultant / Senior Mixer Fred Aldous; Jeff Harris, Technical Department Manager at the Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences (CRAS); and engineer Andrew Scheps. Here are a few of their comments:
Poolside at the El Conquistador Resort, Tucson, Arizona.
“The sound coming out of the Phantom Focus system was astounding – especially coming out of such small monitors in a room that wasn’t acoustically designed. It was an enveloping listening experience and is what music should always sound like.” – Mike Caffrey.
“The imaging was very accurate, especially in the low end, and I heard distinct elements in the low end of a #1 single that I mastered last year that I had not heard before.” – Mark Christensen
“Although my listening time was limited, my experience was impressive, and I look forward to having the opportunity to spend more time with the PhantomFocus System in the future.” – Fred Aldous
“I had no previous biases one way or the other when I auditioned the PhantomFocus System. Listening was a very enjoyable experience. The bass frequencies, which usually are fighting room modes, were solid with no dips. Once you have a system dialed in like this, then your real journey of creating music begins behind the console. No more second-guessing, because all is true.” – Jim Pavett
Auralex Acoustics, Ashly Audio, NHT, and Dynaudio Professional generously provided the portable acoustic modules, proprietary PFS processor, proprietary PFS subwoofer system and near-field monitors, respectively. Also, Sound Anchors provided their new PhantomFocus™ Stand.

One day at a WRKO-680 meeting, Dale suggests that WRKO-680 flip its Top 40 music over to WRKO-FM with WRKO-680 as Talk. On Tuesday, October 21, 2014 Uncle Dale Dorman passes away at 71 after a long illness in his home in Tewksbury, MA. GUN IS ALWAYS LOADED – MIC IS ALWAYS ON Smart gun owners always treat all guns as if they are loaded. Never point a gun at anyone unless we truly intend to shoot them. Radio and TV broadcasters should treat all microphones as if they are live. KTLA TV CW CH 5 entertainment anchor Sam Rubin repeats a question that his wife asks: Since when did you become that fat guy on that show? As quick as Lash La Rue pops his bull whip KTLA TV Traffic reporter Ginger Chan, who is off camera, quickly discovers that her mic is live when she quips: He’s always been. Oh no! You should see the look of fright on Chan’s face when she discovers that everyone hears her words.

TOM ELLIS [Veteran WABC TV, NYC WBZ TV Boston, MA & KONO TV San Antonio, TX news anchor] (Boston-Cape Cod-East Sandwich, MA) Never saw any “Men in Black” movies. My recent favorite is Argo. Don’t take in more than a half-dozen movies a year. Guess that comes from growing up where there were no movie shows available except old silent films, and we had no money to spend on movies anyway…so I didn’t see a real movie until “Show White” came to a movie house in Beaumont. After that “Wizard of Oz” was my 2nd movie. The Wizard nearly scared me to death. In ’75, I got a part in “Marathon Man” with Dustin Hoffman, and after that I had bits in “True Colors” and “29th Street”…plus background actor scenes in a coupla dozen others, and day-player character parts in “All My Children” and “One Life to Live”. Loved being around movie sets and actors, and getting a close up and personal look at how they do it and put everything together.

This column was posted in DAILY GUIDEPOSTS for October 31 and is something Bob and I experienced lately too, so we related to it. We no longer watch the new show (name not mentioned), it too started off great, 2nd time lots of things that we do not believe in. Please read below:

My husband and I had been counting the days until the debut of a new TV drama that promised great things. The producer was world renowned. The lead female was immensely likable. The premise intrigued us both. And so, with sky-high expectations, we set our DVR to record the program and were childishly giddy the night we actually got to pile into bed, giant bowl of popcorn between us, and hit Play.
……The first half hour had us hooked. But then came episode two. Within fifteen minutes, I knew my husband and I weren’t long for this particular path. As the character’ stories unfolded, so did vast amounts of selfishness, scheming, and smut. “No” I screamed at the TV,” the teasers looked so good!”
….. Avoiding a not-so-pure TV show is admittedly a very small step in what is the vast universe of God-honoring activity in this life. But it was a small step toward the God I adore. Thanks Father, for even small victories that lead to big transformations in my life. Ashley.

MUSIC LEGEND TOMMY ROE RECEIVES SPECIAL HONORS IN NASHVILLE
Tommy Roe Presented With Two 2-Million Airplay Awards from BMI as Hit Songwriter
Legendary performer Tommy Roe was in Nashville on October 28
Celebrating two of his biggest hits and the impact they still have on the music world
In a ceremony at the Nashville office of BMI, the veteran singer-songwriter was presented with certifications for his 1960s hits “Sheila” and “Dizzy” being played on the airwaves two million times –each. Tommy admitted he knew that was a lot of spins, but he wasn’t sure what that number actually meant – until a representative from the performing rights organization explained it to him.
“BMI’s David Preston told me that if you played the record every hour for twelve years continuously, it would reach two million,” Roe said. “When you say it like that, it’s pretty much amazing,” he admitted. “I’m glad that there’s people out there that enjoy it, and it makes them happy. That’s what it’s all about.”
Though millions of fans around the world have sung along with Roe on “Sheila,” a number one hit from 1962, many have no idea that the singer originally titled the song “Frieda,” about a girl that he had a crush on back at Brown High School in Atlanta.
He recorded the song in 1960, but the recording failed to light a fire at radio. Two years later, he would re-record the song, and the rest is history, as it topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks.
Seven years later, Roe earned another chart-topper with “Dizzy,” a song that he penned with fellow artist Freddy Weller. In addition to the four weeks it spent on top of the charts in the United States, the record also topped charts in the United Kingdom as well as Canada.
Over four decades later, to have both songs certified for spins of two million each is a very proud and humbling moment for the Georgia native.
“I wrote Sheila when I was fourteen years old. To think that I was a snot-nosed kid who wrote this poem for my girlfriend that I had a crush on in high school, and it turned into a number one song all around the world is amazing.
Even more amazing is that fifty-four years later, I’m still celebrating that song, as well as ‘Dizzy.’ Singing the hits on stage is still special, and the audience response is always there.”
Roe is still performing for fans after all these years, and will soon be headlining shows at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Among those in the crowd to celebrate the moment with Roe included longtime producer / promoter Mike Borchetta and his wife Martha. The music executive was responsible for several of Roe’s biggest career moments.

Learn to live from a place of resting in Me !……
Learn to live from a place of resting in Me. Since I-the Prince of Peace-am both with and within you, you can choose to live from this peaceful place of union with Me. This enables you to stay calm in the midst of stressful situations, by re-centering yourself in Me. We can deal with your problems together-you and I-so there is no need to panic. However, the more difficult your circumstances, the more tempting it is for you to shift into high gear and forget My peaceful Presence.
As soon as you realize you have wandered from your place of Peace, return to Me immediately. Call upon My Name, for this reconnects you with Me and helps you feel safe. Don’t be discouraged by how often you wander from Me. You are endeavoring to form a new habit, and this takes time plus persistent effort. The rewards, though, are well worth your efforts. The more you return to Me-to our resting place-the more peaceful and joyful your life will be.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. -Isaiah 9:6
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. -Philippians 4:13 nkjv”
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. -Proverbs 18:10 nkjv”
Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord.
