TOM ELLIS [Veteran WABC TV, NYC WBZ TV Boston, MA & KONO TV San Antonio, TX news anchor] (Boston-Cape Cod-East Sandwich, MA) Subject: Next! Hi, Jim, If you want to find out just what real rejection is…go to NYC and try breaking into the on air commercial business. You’ll hear…”Thank you. NEXT!” until you’re half crazy. Seldom does a call back arrive. When and if you get a call back your chances have improved a thousand percent…but you’ve still not necessarily hit a home run. Now THAT’S a real tough business to break into. Mother Luck smiled on me quite a bit during the ten years I tried it, but not enough for me to think that’s how I wanted to spend the rest of my working days. Tom

JAY WEAVER (Houston, TX) Subject: Suzie. Jim – I am so happy to hear you got Suzie!! I’m sure she will be great company for you and will help heal your wounds from the passing of Lacy mend faster. I am very happy for you!! Many of us in radio not only had the pleasure of being on air in radio, but also the pleasure of hearing some of the greatest songs ever written. I make this statement after seeing your closing quotation from the song “For The Good Times”. There have been so many lyrics written over the years, but that one is one that always gets me. I love the song and my love for Ray Price has been in me for years. He accomplished so much in his career and truly did it his way! The best to you, Jim! Jay Weaver
JAY WEST (Houston, TX) Subject: Hi Jim… Wow, what a shock to hear one of your favorite tunes by George Hamilton IV was “A Rose & A Baby Ruth”. That too was a favorite of mine. It brought back some 50’s memories when I and a buddy named David Peterson used to sing that song in public while attending High School in Mexico City. I wanted to be an entertainer back then in the music industry…but later laid down the guitar to become a career radio guy. Worked at the only English language radio station in Mexico City back in the mid- ’50’s (XEL). They broadcast in English 5 hours daily, 7-9am & 7-10PM…and to imagine I was a part of that era in Mexico. Later was discovered by a vacationing radio PD from South Texas who asked if I would be interested in working in radio in the USA…h*** yes I said. and the rest is history (as they say). Thanks for all you do Jim via this newsletter. You da one !!!! JAY WEST

CHARLES GEORGE [ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) Subject: Various Radio Topics. Hi, At night I found an interesting Gospel station on 1550 from Baton Rouge, but it faded at ID time so not sure of the ID. I thought the newscasts were very interesting by what they covered and did not cover in some cases. KKDA 730 was weak enough here in South East Dallas that I could easily pick up a station in Spanish. I think it was XEX but not sure. Also KLIF 570 has a station underneath it in Spanish. I also was enjoying XEB on 1220, XEQ 940, and XEEP 1060. XEEP was up in signal strength for several nights over WLNO 1060. Easily heard because of the Classical and Jazz Music. It even sounded better at times that on my Android. Voice Of Turkey has a good signal at 10 pm/0400UTC in English most nights here in Dallas. I remember WBAP ringing a Cowbell at the time it switched frequencies. Charles George KC5RAI
TRIVIA ANSWER: Many consider Blue Cheer as the first Heavy Metal band. Tim Hills writes in his book, The Many Lives of the Crystal Ballroom: Blue Cheer was the epitome of San Francisco psychedelia. Jim Morrison of The Doors calls the group: The single most powerful band I’ve ever seen. Reportedly Blue Cheer gets its name from a street brand of LSD. Owsley Stanley well known LSD chemist and former Grateful Dead patron promotes the band. In spring 1968 San Francisco, CA Hard Rock trio Blue Cheer scores #14 with Summertime Blues.
JOANIE GREEN-GALLO (Tulsa, OK) Subject: Tulsa, OK radio opening! You are the best!!! I WILL contact Jet Black Monday morning for sure…and mention JRRR and will let you know what he says!!! Thank you so much!!! Give Suzie a hug…
MIKE SHEPPARD [Veteran WCWA Program Director] My heart… will always beat just a little faster when the word radio is spoken.

Houston, Texas – Laus Deo
The more challenging your life circumstances, the more you need to affirm-and lean on-your confident trust in Me. During difficult times, your natural tendency is to rely heavily on your own understanding. However, your human understanding is not up to this task; it will fail you time and again.
You have every reason to be confident in Me. I am the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, and I am in charge of every aspect of your life. Because the world is in such a fallen condition, it may seem as if I’m not in control. I could end all suffering instantly-by destroying the earth and taking My children Home-but I am waiting to bring many sons and daughters to Glory.
So take heart as you live in this broken world, believing that My eternal purposes are being worked out through your difficulties. Your troubles are part of My majestic Master Plan, and they are achieving an eternal Glory that far outweighs them all!
Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. -Proverbs 3:5 amp
It was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. -Hebrews 2:10 nkjv
“Our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. -2 Corinthians 4:17”
He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
