WHISNews21 Prayer Line and thoughts for yesterday, today and tomorrow by Marty Martel
To Hold Fast in a Changing World
Lord, when I see how the world is changing, sometimes I begin to feel unsure.
Please help me not to embrace anything that is forbidden by you,
But to measure all things by your divine yardstick. What used to be commonplace truth
Is frowned upon and new standards are being espoused, standards that you did not set out for us.
Let me follow only your way. Let me hear only your voice,
Not the voices of those who do not believe in your teachings.
Let me celebrate and rejoice with those who do believe in you.
Help me to stand firm always, and gain my strength through faith, prayer,
Study of your Word, and worship. Let me turn my head from things that destroy or weaken me.
Let me say no to the forbidden that lasts for a short moment in time,
Looking ahead to the pleasures you have waiting for all who follow your path to eternal glory.
Thank you, Lord, for the wisdom to say no to man’s constant,
Changing lifestyles that steal me away from you.
Keep my eyes fixed on you. I ask this in the name your Son, Jesus Christ.

Fans covered Hunter Mountain like snow in December during Dierks Bentley‘s set at the Taste of Country Music Festival in Hunter, N.Y. on Friday night. The singer was the last of five singers to take the stage, and was forced to follow a powerful show from Brantley Gilbert. He handled the pressure well.
Every song felt unique, even hits that have played on the radio thousands of time. Bentley pulled from his ‘Riser’ album, as well as earlier projects like ‘Home’ and ‘Modern Day Drifter’ to fill his 90-minute-long co-headlining set. ‘Up on a Ridge’ was a pleasant surprise. It felt appropriate on this night, at this hill side venue.
Both Bentley and Gilbert covered Bon Jovi. The 38-year-old sang ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ while Gilbert included ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’ in his encore. The Georgia native’s set included hits from his previous albums, as well as songs he’s co-wrote for Jason Aldean. The highlight may have been songs that followed his three song acoustic set. ‘Take It Outside’ injected a new energy into an already rowdy crowd. Perhaps security wasn’t too thrilled with the surge in adrenaline, but fans behaved, for the most part.
Gwen Sebastian opened the day, singing songs from her self-titled album. The former ‘The Voice’ singer also talked with Taste of Country, saying Miranda Lambert had no problem with her singing the sexy ‘My Eyes’ with Blake Shelton. Blackjack Billy and Eric Paslay also performed, and both visited with Taste of Country during breaks in the on-stage action.
Day two will feature performances from Randy Houser, Jamie Lynn Spears, Craig Morgan, the Cadillac Three and headliner Brad Paisley.

My grace is sufficient for you. This grace is enough to get you through your toughest times. Do you believe this? It’s one thing to believe it when circumstances are going your way. It’s another thing altogether when you’re struggling just to take the next step. Yet this is when My grace is the most precious and glorious-when you know you cannot go another step without it. Then it becomes the shining focus of your life.
I invite you to drink deeply from the exceeding riches of My grace-My favor, mercy, and loving kindness. It is a free gift that opens the way for you into eternity. It also provides what you need to live now, in this fractured world. So come freely into My Presence and pour out your heart to Me. I do not always say yes to your petitions, but I do give you what you need. And I always give you Myself-My compassionate understanding, My unfailing Love.
Do not be ashamed of your weaknesses; boast about them! Through them you are learning to depend more on Me, so that My Power may dwell in you.
[The Lord] has said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. -2 Corinthians 12:9 nasb
“[God] made us alive together with Christ . . . that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. -Ephesians 2:6-7 nkjv”
Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you. -Isaiah 54:10
