TRIVIA ANSWER: In 1980, Ted Turner offers legendary CBS TV news anchor Douglas Edwards the anchor position on his new CNN 24 hour television news network but CBS refuses to release Douglas from his contract. On that day, CBS issues Douglas Edwards a new contract. The Cable News Network (CNN) founded in 1980 by Ted Turner is the first channel to offer 24-hour television news coverage launches at 5:00 pm ET on June 1, 1980. After an introduction by Ted Turner, husband and wife team of David Walker and Lois Hart anchor CNN’s first newscast.
JAY WEAVER [KCUL-1540/KBUY-1540/KPCN-730] (DFW-Hurst, TX) Subject: Skeeter Gordon. Jim, you are full of questions, but I noticed Lacy has none!! Let’s see…all I know about Skeeter is that he was at KNOW–1490 and KILT–610 before 1967. He came to KBUY–1540 in 1967 and stayed for several months and then headed to KFJZ–1270 at the end 1967. I thought he had stayed at KBUY–1540 through 1967, but he left in late 1967. He stayed at KFJZ–1270 and after that moved over to KXOL–1360. He may have been at KLIF–1190 before he went to KXOL–1360, but I think it was the other way around. I’m typing this from memory, I think I’m good on the dates. Thanks, Jim and Lacy, Jay Weaver
FRED ALLEN (May 31, 1894 to March 17, 1956) I always have trouble remembering three things: faces, names, and – I can’t remember what the third thing is.

If you have a prayer or a thought that you want to mention here or send to someone who you believe is deserving please use my column to reach special people who would go out of their way to say a special prayer on your behalf for that someone you care about – Marty Martel
WHISNews21 Prayer Line and thoughts for yesterday, today and tomorrow by Marty Martel
I will continue to ask you to pray for our nation, our government, the devastating disasters that we are witnessing in the world we live in. Prayers are what our Blessed Lord wants to hear. We can do nothing without his blessings, so please continue to pray that we find our way through prayer. Always keep in your prayers our military men and women.
Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy, whose trust, ever child-like, no cares can destroy,
Be there at my waking, and give me, I pray, your bliss in my heart, Lord, at the break of the day.
Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith, whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe,
Be there at my labors, and give me, I pray, your strength in my heart, Lord, at the noon of the day.
Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace, your hands swift to welcome,
Your arms to embrace, be there at my homing, and give me,
I pray, your love in my heart, Lord, at the eve of the day.
Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm, whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm,
Be there at my sleeping, and give me, I pray, your peace in my heart, Lord, at the end of the day.
If you have anyone you would like to send a prayer out to please mail them to
for inclusion in to WHISNews21 weekly prayer line initiated by Marty Martel
in the interest of goodwill to all in need of a little help by the way of a prayer

Since 2005, KBTI has produced a small, light-weight version of the American Flag produced in full-color as a raised tactile and Braille graphic. It is Braille color coded to inform the blind of the locations and colors of the stars and stripes. The flag also bears the Pledge of Allegiance in Braille and print. It is produced from a durable polystyrene material.
In 2006, in partnership with the Blinded Veterans Association in Washington, D.C., KBTI began attractively framing and presenting the Braille American Flag to blind Veterans of all wars.
The Braille American Flag came into prominence in 2008 after it was officially recognized by the 110th US Congress under the Braille American Flag Memorial Act. That same year a bronze plaque of the flag was permanently installed at Arlington National Cemetery. In early 2014, two bronze plaques were received at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum for permanent installation.
Approximately 11.4 million Americans are blind or visually impaired, according to the World Health Organization. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs it is estimated by 2020 there will be over 1 million blind Veterans. Each year an estimated 47,000 – one person every 11 minutes will become blind in America.
Our goal is to create immediate jobs for homeless veterans manufacturing one million Braille American Flags for our Nation’s blind Veterans and civilians. To receive a Braille American Flag we are asking for a minimum donation of five dollars. Donations can be made through the KBTI secure website, or by check or money order.
Those pledging donation will receive a full-color Braille American Flag, an autographed certificate of appreciation by the Braille flag’s creator, a description in both Braille and print, and a Braille alphabet card from which a person can quickly learn the Braille alphabet, punctuation, and numbers.
Homeless and disabled veterans employed in the manufacturing of these flags further qualify for additional programs offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs for which they might not otherwise be eligible were they to remain unemployed.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development – VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program is a joint effort between HUD and VA to move Veterans and their families out of homelessness and into permanent housing. VA offers eligible homeless Veterans clinical and supportive services through its health care system across the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam.
Donations can be sent to KBTI, P.O. Box 48091, Wichita, Kansas 67201-8091, or though the secure website: http://www.kbti.org/store.html/ Direct donations can also be sent though the Donation button located at the right-hand margin of the Store Page. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent of the law. KBTI staff can be reached at 316-265-9692316-265-9692, Monday thru Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST, (Central Standard Time).
The “Come Unto Me” bronze sculpture took more than a year to make its first appearance. Unveiled in 2000, the original life-sized bronze monument stands in the grand foyer of the Spilsbury Mortuary in St. George Utah.
It has become a scenic attraction, in addition to a comfort to countless families at a most tender time of their lives. It portrays the spiritual journey from mortality to immortality: an aged woman’s body, returning to its prime, and back to the arms of our Savior. Death is not the end. We all have an eternal destiny, as “Come Unto Me” portrays.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 (KJV)
I am very present and well-proved Help in trouble. My Presence is always with you, but I am very present in times of distress. Because you are a member of My royal family-a citizen of My heavenly kingdom-I am committed to caring for you. During stressful times, your heart may race and your adrenaline level may soar. These physiological changes can block your awareness of My Presence. So it’s vital at such times to remind yourself: Jesus is here with me; in fact, He is very present with me in this hard situation. Then, take some slow, deep breaths so you can relax enough to connect with Me and draw strength from Me.
Biblical history has many examples of My faithfulness during times of trouble. World history-including current events-also contains proof of My powerful Presence. You won’t hear of this in secular news reports, but I continue to do miracles in your world. Moreover, as you look back over the years of your own life, you will see many instances of My meeting your needs in hard times. Since I am such a well-proved Help, you can trust Me to help you now!
God is our Refuge and Strength [mighty and impenetrable to temptation], a very present and well-proved help in trouble. -Psalm 46:1 amp
“The Lord your God dried up the Jordan before you until you had crossed over. The Lord your God did to the Jordan just what he had done to the Red Sea when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over. -Joshua 4:23”
To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy-to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! -Jude 24-25
