WHISNews21 Prayer Line and thoughts for yesterday, today and tomorrow by Marty Martel
I am sorry for not sending out my Thought for the Day. I have been not feeling well because of the flu. Please keep me in your prayers for a speedy recovery. I do not like to miss my Thought for the Day, but this bug is got a good hold on me and I am trying to get as much rest as possible. I know you understand. God Bless.
Prayer To Do God’s Will Today: Thy will be done. Dear God, I am full of the sound of my own voice, That lump of pride deep within me that will not go away, No matter how I try. Give me the strength through the power of your Holy Spirit To hear your voice and follow it, fighting the temptation to sin That bubbles up inside me whenever my mind strays from you. Thy will be done. Thy will be done. Thy will be done. You have commanded us to love one another, this I know without doubt. And yet all day I am filled with judgments, with resentments, With anger that sneaks in and grabs me when I am not paying attention to you. I pray dear God, that you will soften my heart to my fellow humans, No matter how sinfully they may act, and leave the judging to you, As you have commanded. Fill me with acceptance in place of judgment,Sympathy in place of anger, faith in place of resentment. For my judgments and anger are the creatures of pride. May I do thy will this day, in the name of Christ I pray – Amen

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 19, 2014) – The original Urban Cowboy, Mickey Gilley, is hitting the road and will return to touring after recovering from 2009 tragic accident that left him paralyzed.
“I have always loved performing and I know nothing else,” says Mickey Gilley. “Getting back on stage in all of these cities is something to look forward to each and every day. The outpour of love and concern from the fans, my fellow artist friends, and the music community has kept me fighting to walk back on that stage, so I am glad that time is finally here.”
Throughout Gilley’s career, he has released 39 Top-Ten country hits with 17 of them hitting No. 1 on country charts including, Stand By Me, True Love Ways, You Don’t Know Me and A Headache Tomorrow (Or A Heartache Tonight). In 1976, he swept the ACM Awards, receiving Entertainer of the Year, Top Male Vocalist, Song of the Year, Single of the Year and Album of the Year. He has been ranked among the top-fifty country music hit makers in the 1989 book written by record research historian Joel Whitburn.
Aside from his many hits and being known as the cousin to Jerry Lee Lewis and Jimmy Swaggart, Gilley was instrumental in creating the “Urban Cowboy” era with the opening of Gilley’s in 1971 – known as the World’s Largest Honky-Tonk. The famed-club included mechanical bulls, pool tables, a rodeo area, punching bags, a shooting gallery and a dance floor that could hold thousands becoming the forerunner of Hard Rock Café and other theme restaurants. Esquire Magazine wrote an article “The Ballad of the Urban Cowboy” based on Gilley’s, which later became the movie, “Urban Cowboy,” starring John Travolta.
In 2009, while helping his friend move, Gilley became paralyzed from the neck down after a sofa landed on top of him and crushed four vertebrae. After several years of intense physical therapy he has returned to the stage and is now walking, singing and performing.

It is amazing how big business was able to make millions out of the early 1990’s Country revolution. Soon everyone was singing and buying Country music again, and Country was mostly still Country and the Fan Fair was at the Nashville Fairgrounds and all was fine. Country was Cool again and the world embraced Country Music from the legends to the new kids on the block.
It was about then that the eyes of the Corporate Giants also noticed how Country Music was outselling all other music genres and even other Rock, Pop and R&B Artists. The Top 40 charts and even the Billboard Top200 was full of good Country songs. So the corporate companies got on board and all should have been well with Country. The only problem was that the Corporate Giants did not have the heart for country they wanted the money that Country was turning out. So they took their greedy hands and ripped out the Pure Red Blooded Heart of Country and replaced it with the Stone Cold Silver Dollar.
Just like with any takeover, it all takes awhile to get the, “In With The New, and Out With The Old” out. And they had the money, and the power, and with all of that they bought the time and slowly directed Country Music onto a path of Rock ‘n Roll and Pop. Where it is currently traveling at the speed of light.
It has taken the corporate companies almost 15 years to change our Country, it started with “Young Country” then I believe it went to “New Country”. I may have left something out there but it is now 2014 and when I turn my car radio on and tune in to a Country Radio Station, it’s like going back to the late 60 early 70’s and listening to a soft rock, pop radio station.
Some of the huge FM Country radio stations available right now on your FM radio, call “Real Country” singers, neo-traditionalist singers. They list Country Superstars like, Randy Travis and Dwight Yoakam to Clint Black, Garth Brooks, and Alan Jackson in that Neo category. Well I hate to burst their bubble but these artists, are not “Neo-Anything they are Country Artists and Country Artists they will always be.
I ask you what the heck is a, “Neo Traditionalist” is it something or someone who belongs to a political party or some right or left-wing Neo something or other organization. No, and I know you may want to try to explain to me what a Neo Traditionalist is, I do know believe me, but have you ever heard a country song in your entire life with these words, ‘Neo Traditionalist” written into its lyrics. Yet almost all of the country male and female artists on the corporate radio stations “Country” Top40’s could in my opinion be the same male or female singing all the songs with different names selected for each song they belt out. To crown it all most of the songs are not even country, they are either Pop or Rock and even to my absolute disgust some other genre I would rather not list here.
As I am not a rich man I don’t have the funds, but there must be a good few Country loving billionaire’s out there who would want to sponsor an “International Country Music Fan Fair” similar to the old Fan Fair at the Nashville Fairgrounds back in the 90’s. I do believe that the sponsors will actually make money on their sponsorship and not lose a dime in their quest to save Country Music as We Love it. These sponsors would be immortalized for being the ones who saved Country Music in the 21st Century. I so wish I could have done this as I would if I could. I have the faith but not the silver or gold.
Well before y’alI fall asleep reading my article let me start closing by saying: I believe most people are so tied up with trying to get by, that they just allow the world to take away their Country music. They say nothing about the way Country is changed by the corporates, just for the sake of putting more dollars in their pockets and sucking our Country dry. I also think most good country people believe they cannot fight for their country against the corporate banks of gold.
Let me add this, before the Corporates freak out here. I am all for you putting money into Country Music, but not for changing our Country Music because you have no heart for it, put your pure heart back into our music and I will put my faith back in you. Oh I am sure ole Mr Webster will explain “Pure Heart” to you if you have forgotten.
As for us real Country supporters, and there are a lot more of us than you may realize as I truly believe and know there are, let us support real country music. It is not too late yet, but the writing is on the wall, if you care to look up.
There are without any doubt, many new and young Country artists that could fill our Country legends shoes, if they are allowed to. If you want to save Country Music for the future it is time you support Real Country Music, and stop looking at pretty young girls and boys singing what I call and will call from now on “Popcorn Country” which to be honest is really just Pop or Rock Music posing as Country to fool the masses.
Maybe soon “Popcorn Country” as with “Bubblegum Music” will disappear and real Country Music with its Fiddles and Steel Guitars will return with melodies, beats and Country voices to match.

Sing to Me, because I have dealt bountifully with you. When singing praises is the last thing you feel like doing, it is probably just what you need. I have indeed been gracious in My dealings with you-whether or not it seems that way. You have been on an uphill journey for a long time, and you are growing weary. You yearn for some easy days, for a path that is not so steep. But it is the strenuous climbs that take you ever upward-closer and closer to the summit.
The difficulty of your life circumstances is not a mistake! It’s a matter of My Sovereign will and-to some extent-your own goals. You desire to live close to Me and to grow more fully into the one I created you to be. Pursuing these goals has put you on an adventurous trail where difficulties and dangers abound. Sometimes you compare your journey with those of your friends who seem to be on easier paths. But you cannot fully comprehend the problems they face. Nor do you know what the future holds for them. Remember My response to Simon Peter when he asked about My dealings with John: What is that to you? You follow Me!
I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me. -Psalm 13:6 nkjv
God is my strong fortress; and He sets the blameless in His way. He makes my feet like hinds’ feet, and sets me on high places. -2 Samuel 22:33-34 nasb
Jesus said to [Peter], If I want [John] to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me! -John 21:22 nasb
I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
