I got a little ahead of myself this morning and I wanted to send the following message, so I am doing that now. Forgive me for overlooking what I had already sent. Two is better than one. Thank you. Marty
(Nashville, TN-3.10.14) Yesterday was one of the most special days of my life on this Lord’s earth. I celebrated my 75th birthday in great fashion, thanks to my special lady that I love, Julie. It was an awesome day culminating in a great gathering of family, friend, and associates in the music industry. Thanks to each of you for making it so, so special. IT HAS BEEN THE BEST, THANKS TO ALL OF THE BIRTHDAY WISHES AND A SPECIAL THANKS TO JULIE FOR HER LOVE AND FOR THIS PARTY BEING SO MEANINGFUL IN MY LIFE.
75 is a great number especially when it is with family, friends, and a special lady in my life. It doesn’t get any better than this. Wish you could have joined me, but I rcvd so many birthday wishes that it made my day so special. As you can see from the pix I have included I was surrounded by my family, friends, and associates that made this such a memorable day and evening. Thank you.
Remember, birthdays are only #’s that come with being born, no more, no less. It is what we do with the numbers, and you have all helped me through to this date. Love all of you.
If the next years are as good at these 75, I am in good shape and I will be a happy camper the rest of my life. Again thank you for a great day, especially my Julie babe.
If you have a prayer or a thought that you want to mention here or send to someone who you believe is deserving please use my column to reach special people who would go out of their way to say a special prayer on your behalf for that someone you care about – Marty Martel
WHISNews21 Prayer Line and thoughts for yesterday, today and tomorrow by Marty Martel

Prayer for This Day
Heavenly Father, let me do my work this day; and if the darkened hours of despair overcome me,
May I not forget the strength that comforted me in the desolation of other times.
May I still remember the bright hours that found me walking over the silent hills of my childhood,
For dreaming on the margin of a quiet river, when a light glowed within me,
And I promised my early God to have courage amid the tempests of the changing years.
Spare me from bitterness and from the sharp passions of unguarded moments. May I not forget that poverty and riches are of the spirit. Though the world knows me not, may my thoughts and actions be such as shall keep me friendly with myself.
Lift up my eyes from the earth, and let me not forget the uses of the stars. Forbid that I should judge others lest I condemn myself. Let me not follow the clamor of the world, but walk calmly in my path.
Give me a few friends who will love me for what I am; and keep ever burning before my vagrant steps the kindly light of hope.
And though age and infirmity overtake me, and I come not within sight of the castle of my dreams, teach me still to be thankful for life, and for time’s olden memories that are good and sweet; and may the evening’s twilight find me gentle still.
If you have anyone you would like to send a prayer out to please mail them to
for inclusion in to WHISNews21 weekly prayer line initiated by Marty Martel
in the interest of goodwill to all in need of a little help by the way of a prayer

HONEYMOONERS ALICE MOVES ONOne of our favorite TV shows in the Fabulous Fifties is The Honeymooners on CBS TV. From 1955-56 in 39 episodes ofThe Honeymooners Audrey Meadows is Alice Kramden the wife of Jackie Gleason’s bus-driver character Ralph Kramden. From 1966 to 1970, Sheila MacRae revives the role of Alice Kramden in the color TV re-creation of The Honeymooners. For 26 years, singer, dancer and actress Sheila MacRae is the wife of Oklahoma star Gordon MacRae. In 1964, they appear together on The Ed Sullivan Show along with The Beatles. She is born Sheila Stephens in Middlesex County, England, on September 24, 1921. Sheila MacRae passes away at 92 on Thursday, March 7, 2014 at the Lillian Booth Actors Home in Englewood, NJ.
LEON HALE CALLS IT QUITS In August 1977, when I move to Houston, TX as a DJ on its #1 radio station, KIKK FM, The Houston Post becomes my favorite newspaper. Leon Hale, who for 32 years writes a daily column for the Houston Post, is a must read for me and his legions of fans. In 1985, Leon moves his column over to the Houston Chronicle for almost 30 more years. Texas’ own Mark Twain, Leon Hale, tells tales that he hears at the ice house, a talking mule, plus his annual spring fishing trip to the James River in the Hill Country. When Tom Landry retires as Dallas Cowboys head coach, it drives a spike into the hearts of us Cowboys fans. The Houston Chronicle proclaims that Sunday, March 9, 2014 is the last of Leon Hale’s columns.
SPRING FORWARD FALL BACKWARD On Sunday morning, thanks to Daylight Saving Time, we rise an hour earlier. That’s the brilliant plan officials in World War I hatch to save coal used for heat and light with people beginning their days closer to sunrise and go to bed earlier. In the 1970s, Daylight Saving Time extends into the winter, which according to government studies, saves about 1% in America’s use of electricity. That extra hour in the summer means more of us in warmer regions, like here in the south, head indoors. We then turn on our air conditioners which adds but does not subtract from our energy consumption. Some studies indicate a slight increase in heart attacks in the days after daylight saving, since the change may cause a rise in stress hormones that keeps us up longer.

CHUCK DUNAWAY [former DJ on WABC-770, KLIF-1190, KBOX-1480 & KILT-610] (Houston-Katy, TX) Bill Drake was very close to Russ (Weird Beard) Knight and came to Houston to visit Russ once while I was on KILT. Normally I did not talk much on the air, but on this day I had visited the Huntsville State Prison in preparation for MC’ing a Rotary Club benefit show that had something to do with the Prison. At any rate, the prisoners were friendly and most every prisoner listened to KILT. The prison officials took me to death row which was very emotional for me. I got a lot of stories and a ton of requests which I thought I’d put on the air…even though I normally never over spoke on the air, on this day I was quite lippy… Bottom line, Drake came to the studios with Russ when he and I passed in a shift change. Drake told me he was interested in me for LA, but I talked too much. My ego was bruised enough for me to tell Bill Drake that “I was having great success in Houston and had no desire to move to California”. I believe the opening was afternoon drive in San Francisco. There went my chance to be a boss jock.

Houston, Texas – Laus Deo
I Myself go before you and will be with you. So do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. I, your loving Savior, am also infinite God! I am omnipresent: present everywhere at once. This makes it possible for Me to go ahead of you-opening up the way-without ever leaving your side.
The promise of My Presence is for all time. No matter where you go or what circumstances you encounter, I will be with you. This is the basis of your courage and confidence. Though fear and discouragement may sometimes slink into your heart, this is not their rightful home. Your heart is My dwelling place, and those hurtful emotions are not from Me. In fact, My perfect Love casts out fear. So check your heart from time to time, to see if fear and discouragement are loitering there. If you discover those unwelcome intruders, ask the Holy Spirit to function as a bouncer and boot them out! Then, encourage yourself with My promise to go before you and be with you-and let My perfect Love renew your hope.
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. -Deuteronomy 31:8”
I bow my knees to the Father . . . that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. -Ephesians 3:14, 17 nkjv
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. -1 John 4:18 nasb
