Stars Who Fought For Custody Of Their Dogs

whogetsthedog01

From Drew Barrymore and Britney Spears to Kirsten Dunst and Jennifer Love Hewitt, we hear about the stars who fought for custody of their dogs after their marriages broke up

by Ross Carter

diablo3Who gets the dog when you divorce or split up? Many celebrities never thought about that when they married, but when they split they wished they had a dog-related pre-nuptial agreement to avoid bitter custody battles.

Like Drew Barrymore and husband of less than six months Canadian comic Tom Green when they divorced in 2001.

Three years earlier, a fire ripped through the Beverly Hills home of Drew and her then fiancé Tom while they slept in an upstairs bedroom, and who saved their lives was her adopted chow-yellow labrador mix Flossie.

As the flames grew, the dog started barking and ran upstairs and started clawing at the bedroom door. All three escaped although the house was completely burned down.

When the couple divorced they both wanted to keep Flossie but, because they had no pet custody agreement, they went to court. Barrymore won and had the dog until its death in 2010.

According to a recent survey by the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, the Dogs Trust, a quarter of owners believed their pet would be the most important things when they split up.

“Dogs are not like expensive jewels or fixtures and fittings, and cannot be divided as easily in a divorce or separation,” says the charity’s chief executive, Clarissa Baldwin.

photo posted on post-gazette.comWhen actor Kevin Federaline and Britney Spears parted ways in 2007, they had a bitter battle for their dogs after Spears had lost the custody of their two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden.

The dogs concerned were Lucky, Bit Bit, Lacy and London. And when the animal rights charity Peta wrote to Federline asking him to take custody of the dogs, he was given them.

Peta said they hoped he would do the right thing “so that your sons can continue to have the company of the animals they have grown to adore.”

Dr Aaron Katcher, psychiatrist and professor emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania, agrees with that. “When a couple with children separate or divorce, I always advise the best solution is to keep the children and dog or dogs together,” he says

He has written many books on the subject, including Between Pets and People, and is the originator of a university certificate programme in Animal Assisted Therapy and Education.

“It’s well known that divorce can cause behavioural changes in a child. Dogs can play a beneficial role, since a child can make the dog a best friend and confidant, to be hugged, cried with and told any secret, knowing his best friend will neither pass judgement nor tell anyone.”

Hollywood stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Kirsten Dunst were together for two years from 2002 and they shared a German shepherd named Atticus. But when they split they went to court and fought over the dog’s custody.

001751226Gyllenhaal won, but Dunst was granted partial custody, so they shared the animal. Since then, he has got another dog which he has named Boo. Boo is a Puggle, a cross between a Pug and a Beagle.

Atticus and Boo are named after the main characters of his favourite book, To Kill a Mockingbird.

When American actress Jennifer Love Hewitt ended her four-year relationship with her fiancé, Scottish actor Ross McCall, in 2009, they both wanted to keep their boxer dog Mona.

Because they did not have a pet custody agreement they became embroiled in a bitter battle. Hewitt got custody but McCall got visiting rights. However, a source later revealed to the New York Daily News newspaper: “Jennifer is even attempting to change Mona’s name so that when Ross calls the dog won’t come.”

Finally, Dr Katcher believes that if a pet-owning family is breaking up, it could actually be the pet’s fault.

“Dogs are a two-edged sword,” he says. “When properly used, they can be a very strong, cementing factor in a marriage, but they could also be a contributing factor to divorce.

“And when childless couples get a dog as a substitute for a child, each spouse tries to get the animal on their side when there’s a fight.

“Or often a woman will marry or re-marry and bring with her a dog that had the run of the previous home. The husband may feel the dog is getting more attention than he is, and may get hostile towards the dog. Then all kinds of quarrels develop.”

WHISNews21 Prayer Line and thoughts for yesterday, today and tomorrow by Marty Martel

I am going to use my Thought for the Day to make the following public apology to all who read my daily Thought: I apologize to Jett Williams for sending out an email that came from another person regarding Jett’s issues in Lebanon this past week.  I have known Jett and her deceased husband Keith for many years and they have been friends and very helpful to me in many instances when I was President of R.O.P.E., and a great asset to the country music community.  Jett never turned me down on my requests for her to appear for our events.

The article was published in the Lebanon Democrat:

BY CAITLIN RICKARD CRICKARD@LEBANONDEMOCRAT.COM  LEBANON – FEB 25, 2014

I am not going to include the article in this email because it would be senseless to do that.  But as you can see I did not write the article, but I did add my comments to the article, and that is something that I should not have done because of my friendship with Jett, but I did send out what was sent to me. So to you Jett I apologize for sending the article.  It was already worldwide and I should have just let it be. I made a mistake in my judgment and for that I am sorry.  I am not a person who will not admit that I should have used better judgment.  I have you in my prayers and I hope that you accept my apology. I regret that I might have hurt you in any way –  Marty Martel

Morning Prayer

Let me to-day do something that shall take
A little sadness from the world’s vast store,
And may I be so favoured as to make
Of joy’s too scanty sum a little more.

Let me not hurt, by any selfish deed
Or thoughtless word, the heart of foe or friend;
Nor would I pass, unseeing, worthy need,
Or sin by silence when I should defend.

However meagre be my worldly wealth,
Let me give something that shall aid my kind –
A word of courage, or a thought of health,
Dropped as I pass for troubled hearts to find.

Let me to-night look back across the span
‘Twixt dawn and dark, and to my conscience say –
Because of some good act to beast or man –
“The world is better that I lived today.”

Amen

Jesse McReynolds Celebrates Golden Opry Anniversary

Bluegrass Legend Jesse McReynolds Celebrates Golden Opry Anniversary

The pride of Coeburn, Virginia, Jesse Lester McReynolds, celebrates his 50th anniversary as a member of the world famous Grand Ole Opry this weekend.

JimandJesseearlyyearsJesse McReynolds and his late brother, Jim McReynolds, began playing music at an early age. Music seemed to be a way of life in the Southwestern corner of the Commonwealth of Virginia,as was exemplified when the first recording sessions ever conducted took place in Bristol, Virginia in 1927. For the duo to follow in the footsteps of their grandfather, Charlie McReynolds (who was one of the first RCA recording artists for RCA during the “Bristol Sessions”) seemed a natural course to take. Officially, McReynolds credits the year 1947 as the beginning of his career in the music industry. Jim and Jesse McReynolds debuted on the Capitol Records recording label in 1952. This appearance marked the official start of what was to be a long and influential career for the pair. Over the course of their recording career other label success would follow with Columbia, Epic, Opryland, CMH, Rounder and their own label of Old Dominion. Their regional success throughout the Southeastern United States lead to various opportunities for greater exposure. One such opportunity lay with Martha White Mills (known today as Martha White Flour). During the 1950s and 1960s, the company was an advertiser for the locally and regionally broadcast radio and television shows on which the McReynolds’ appeared. Additionally, they were a sponsor on the Grand Ole Opry radio show during this same time period. Jim and Jesse were asked to appear on the Grand Ole Opry which lead to their membership invitation in March 1964. A move to Tennessee was inevitable and came about as the band moved its operations to Gallatin, Tennessee.

Jesse McReynoldsThe band, known affectionately and professionally, as the Virginia Boys has always consisted of the cream of the crop bluegrass musicians. Many times, especially over the last several years, the band has been comprised of family members carrying on the McReynolds tradition of musical styling. Over the last decade introductions have been made reflecting the addition of some of the female family members, as well. Instrumentation consisted of Jim McReynolds picking guitar while Jesse McReynolds picked the mandolin, banjo, bass and also playing fiddle. Unfortunately, the band lost one of its founders, Jim McReynolds, in 2002 to a battle with cancer. This departure from the group marked the end of a 55 year professional musical relationship. This milestone qualified the duo to hold the longest “brother” duet pairing in Country music history.

Known for his “cross-picking” and “split string” style of mandolin playing, Jesse McReynolds has become one of the Bluegrass genre’s most prolific artists. He still maintains a tour schedule consisting of 50 plus events annually. During his career he boasts appearances in 49 states (Alaska, excluded) as well as Canada, Mexico, Japan and Europe. One of the reasons for his enduring career is his ability to think outside of the box, musically. Although known as a Bluegrass artist, Jesse McReynolds can take any genre of music and arrange it in a Bluegrass style. This fact is evident with his recent cover of a few of Jerry Garcia’s Grateful Dead tunes. For this reason, he has brought ecclectic styling to a traditional music format.

McReynolds has many honors to his credit including the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Hall of Honor, the Virginia Music Hall of Fame, Bill Monroe’s Bluegrass Hall of Fame, the National Heritage Fellowship Award from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as numerous Grammy Award nominations. Among his top honors, however, is his membership in the Grand Ole Opry.

A celebration of Jesse McReynolds’ 50th Grand Ole Opry anniversary will take place this Saturday night, March 1, 2014, during the 7:30pm CST portion of the Grand Ole Opry hosted by fellow Grand Ole Opry member Jeannie Seely. Be sure to tune into 650AM WSM to listen live. You may also listen via the Internet at www.wsmonline.com. Jesse McReynolds will also be the host of the Ernest Tubb Midnite Jamboree on March 22, 2014. The Midnite Jamboree is a free show starting at midnight Central Time. Join Jesse McReynolds as the celebration continues on this night. For more information, you may contact the author of this article as well as the Ernest Tubb Record Shop #2 at (615) 889-2474(615) 889-2474.

Ferlin Husky sings “Wings Of A Dove’ on Country Family Reunion 2012 – WET TV

Larry Black, the company specializes in “Reunion Videos.” Black first applied the “Reunion Video” concept to the legends of country music. The idea was simple: Ask the great people who shaped country music to get together and talk about their history, and maybe sing a few songs. From this idea, Country’s Family Reunion was born. More than 30 country music legends got together for that first taping to tell their stories and sing their songs. The success of this series spurred the creation of more than a dozen more projects featuring hundreds of songs and stories. You can find all of our music reunion products under the Country’s Family Reunion portion of this Web site.

Facts about Coca-Cola you Probably Already Know

cocacolablood01

There has been so much written about Coca Cola yet we all drink it like water.

I dont Want To Do But I Just Can’t Help It.

Here are some facts that Coca-Cola drinkers will want to know (and may be freaked out by).

*America’s favorite drink originally contained cocaine and was alcoholic. John Pemberton, the inventor of coke, was a pharmacist who invented many drugs. However, he never made any money in pharmaceuticals.

*The Coca-Cola brand is worth more than $74 billion dollars. That’s more than Budweiser, Pepsi, Starbucks & Redbull combined!

*94 percent of the world’s population recognizes Coca-Cola. It’s the second most understood term in the world, behind “OK.”

*The modern image of Santa was embedded in our culture by coke through years of advertising.

*Coca-Cola originally claimed that it had health benefits and medicinal properties because it contained cocaine. Cocaine was later removed in 1903 and substituted with caffeine as the primary stimulant.

*You may be allergic to Coke and not know it because they are not obligated by law to reveal its “secret ingredient.” Coke’s recipe is in the Sun Trust bank in Atlanta, Georgia. Only 2 executives have access to the vault.

*According to Warren Buffet, Coca-Cola has no taste memory. So just like water, you will never get sick of it.

*Coca-Cola also invented the 6 pack to encourage people to drink Coke more often.

Like I said nothing we did not already know, but the huge question here is,

Do We Really Care Anymore

or as Hillary Clinton says,

What Does It Matter Anymore

MaritzOriginalLetters2013saturday

I am Lord God Almighty, and I am holy, holy, holy. This threefold repetition of My holiness emphasizes My utter separateness from sin. I want you to enjoy the wonder of My loving Presence with you always, but do not lose sight of My holiness. Your awareness that I am holy God can bless and protect you. It highlights how very privileged you are to know Me as Savior and Friend. Also, it protects you from being presumptuous or relating to Me carelessly. Sometimes your communication with Me will be improper, but remembering My holiness can help you repent quickly.

Even though King David committed some terrible sins, he was a man after My own heart who was very teachable. When Nathan the prophet rebuked David for having committed adultery and murder, he repented immediately, saying, I have sinned against the Lord. So do not despair when you realize you have sinned. Instead, turn quickly from the offensive way and turn back toward Me. I will receive you warmly-with no condemnation.

The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come! -Revelation 4:8 nkjv

After removing Saul, [God] made David their king. He testified concerning him: I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do. -Acts 13:22

So David said to Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said to David, The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. -2 Samuel 12:13 nkjv

“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. -Romans 8:1”
