Tuesdays Likileake Is All About Gold Today

If you have a local radio station that you think would be interested in broadcasting the daily Likileakes then send us the information and we will be sure to contact them.

This Likileake Says Golden Rule not so golden?

goldenruleGolden Rule not so golden: The Golden rule that I was taught in Sunday school is not quite so golden these days. Just about everyone knows it’s definition by heart but for those not familiar with the phrase it is: “One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself.”

Somehow this positive way of thinking has gotten mixed up with a direct opposite way of life often referred to as Dog-eat-dog.  By definition this phrase describes a situation in which people will do anything to be successful, even if what they do harms other people.

Thus you often hear “It’s a dog-eat-dog world out there.”  It sounds gruesome but is a part of today’s society on many levels.  Someone painted a very clear picture to describe it by saying it is like a bucket full of live crabs.

They are all trying to get out of the bucket and will step on each other, push the other ones, and claw at each other in a desperate attempt to get out of the bucket.  The old saying about you better watch who you step on while climbing up the ladder because you might see them again on your way down is as true today as when the little saying was first uttered.

Just think what it would be like to be in a world where everyone lived by the Golden Rule.  Christians believe there is such a place.  Scientists say it doesn’t exist.

James Marvell Performs Hippie Show, Border Theatre

jamesmarvell13James Marvell Performs Hippie Show At Border Theatre – Kathy Olivarez

Things change as people come and go. And as the younger Winter Texans come, the music that accompanies their youthful memories is different from that of the older generation of Winter Texans. With the coming of the Beatles and the protests of the Vietnam War, music became less innocent and started expressing opinions opting for peace instead of war. James and Faye Marvell have captured that “Woodstock” generation’s music and put it into a show, complete with costumes of that era.

James comes out with a hippie-style shirt, a headband, several strands of beads, and torn jeans bearing peace signs, while Faye favors long flowing skirts and shirts covered with scarves. The couple encourages their audiences to dress in hippie attire when they come to the show, “because it makes the show more fun.”

James scoffs the idea that hippies were not patriotic by singing “America” in a way that filled the Border Theatre in Mission where he performed recently.

He launches into a number of songs that were popular during the ‘60s, starting with “Henry the VIII I Am,” “As Tears Go By,” by the Rolling Stones, and “96 Tears.”

Of course he sings several of The Beatles songs such as “Love Me Do,” their most popular song and the song that launched them internationally. He sings songs written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney like “A World Without Love” and “Michelle.” Other Beatles songs include “Got a Ticket to Ride,” “Help” and “Norwegian Wood.”

James also sings other popular hits of the era including “Runaround Sue” and “My Little Runaway” by Del Shannon. Dean Martin’s “Birds and the Bees” and “Cherish” by The Association bring back memories. “Happy Together” by the Turtles and “American Woman” by Guess Who brought back still more memories of the ‘60s sounds.

Faye led members of the audience in a Conga Line when James sang “Do Wha Diddy.”

Faye also gave James a little break by singing, “It’s My Party.”

During the second half of the show James had members of popular old groups introduce him on screen before he sang their songs. Tiny Tim introduced “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” and one of The Rascals introduced “Do You Love Me?” James paid tribute to Davy Jones of The Monkees by singing “I’m a Believer.”

Film taken at Woodstock showed on the screen while James sang what he called the Woodstock theme song, “Love One Another Right Now.”

Marvell’s show is a forerunner of what will probably become a trend in music for Winter Texans as younger people from the Baby Boomer generation start retiring and moving to the Rio Grande Valley.

Rhon’s Tuesday Inspiration From Jesus Calling

Taste and see that I am good. The more intimately you experience Me, the more convinced you become of My goodness. I am the Living One who sees you and longs to participate in your life. I am training you to find Me in each moment and to be a channel of My loving Presence. Sometimes My blessings come to you in mysterious ways: through pain and trouble. At such times you can know My goodness only through your trust in Me. Understanding will fail you, but trust will keep you close to Me.

Thank Me for the gift of My Peace, a gift of such immense proportions that you cannot fathom its depth or breadth. When I appeared to My disciples after the resurrection, it was Peace that I communicated first of all. I knew this was their deepest need: to calm their fears and clear their minds. I also speak Peace to you, for I know your anxious thoughts. Listen to Me! Tune out other voices, so that you can hear Me more clearly. I designed you to dwell in Peace all day, every day. Draw near to Me; receive My Peace.

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
—Psalm 34:8

“So she called the name of the Lord Who spoke to her… the Living One Who sees me.
—Genesis 16:13–14 amp”

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”
—John 20:19

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
—Colossians 3:15

.WHISNews21 Prayer Line and thoughts for Monday April 1, By Marty Martel.

Marty, a dear friend of mine, Nick Nixon, has been a long time friend of mine and many others. He is battling cancer and is in need of prayers. He has always been there for many others, now he needs us!!!

Nick, and Don Earl wrote The Teddy Bear Song, that Barbara Fairchild had a big hit with back in the 70’s. Nick had several songs that he recorded on Mercury that hit the charts, but he refused to go on the road and leave his family. He is an awesome talent and a great person.

A few songs he had in the charts were, Leave Your Back Porch Light On, Rockin In Roselee’s Boat. And Old Habit I Can’t Break, Charley Pride had the #1 hit with this tune, but Nick Nixon was the first to chart with his version in 1975, when it reached #64 – Thanks, Maggie

Prayers are still needed for our friend Ray Emmett: Marty,
We still need prayers!! My dad is STILL in Vanderbilt, going on week 4, last night they brought him to ICU. He is being monitored better today than he was in the other room, which I am happy he is in ICU for that, but he is not out of the woods. Please continue prayers, and when he gets out of ICU, visitors would be welcome, cheer him up.
I have to go back to Colorado today, and hate leaving him…I wish I could stay!!!! Renee is stressed to the max, so prayers for her too. Thanks so much! Blessings, Linda Kyle (Ray Emmett’s daughter)

Just got this request from our dear friend and brother, Donnie Clark. His mother Nancy Clark is in I.C.U. and needs your prayersright now. Billy, please put my mom on the prayer chain. She had complications from her surgery a blood clot that went to her heart and lung and we lost her for a minute but they revived her and cleared her lungs and have her on 100 percent oxygen. The situation is critical and we ask you for pray healing prayers for mom and all of us in the name of Jesus. Thanks so much! – Donnie & Vickie Clark

HIS CALL: Count ourselves many a blessing – or are we even aware… How many the things to be grateful for – especially that others care? Even when we are all alone – The Lord e’er remains in our heart; How marvelous to have Him near – to know He’ll never part. Share with another our comfort when they are in time of need; How He is the Rock to lean on and how upon Him we feed. He is ours for the asking and never will fail us at all; Respond to His summoning kingdom by answering “Amen” to His call! David K. Winslow
