FEDS BUST IOWA PIRATE RADIO The FCC nabs a buccaneer who operates a pirate radio station not on the east coast in Florida or New York but in Iowa City, IA. The radio pirate operates slightly off of the standard FM dial at 87.9 MHz.

Agents from the FCC’s Kansas City office shut down the broadcasts on that frequency plus they tag Thomas Costa of Iowa City IA as the radio pirate. FCC agents trace the pirate signal to a residence that houses Costa’s rented basement room.

The busted radio pirate admits that he sets up the radio station with a chimney-mounted antenna, but he admits that he does it not for his own benefit but for several unnamed individuals. Costa says they paid him to house the station, and he in turn used the money to pay rent to his landlord.

STEVE MOORE [Russ Knight The Weird Beard’s son] (Westport, CT) Subject: Thanks for Remembering Russ “The Weird Beard” Knight. Dear Mr. Rose, Thanks very much for covering the passing of my father in your internet column. I’m sure you know as well as anyone that when the microphone was on, The Weird Beard was bulletproof; when it was off, it was a different story.

Dad went through the many ups and downs that are endemic to the radio industry, and his desire to move away from the on-air personality aspect and into management didn’t make things any easier. While he was a great PD, his true calling and talent was on the airwaves, and by the time he figured that out, too much time had passed for him to make much headway. He quietly retired from the business in 2000 or so, after making a bunch of stops at WAKE, KLIF, KILT, WXYZ, WCUE, WHK, KBOX, KLZ, WAKR, WHK (again!), WNEW, WDJZ, WICC, WELI…and maybe some others that I just can’t remember now.

I don’t know if you and I had ever met during my Dad’s time at KBOX, but I sure remember the station, and how my brother and I used to play in the hedges that spelled K-B-O-X outside. But thanks again for your kind words about my Dad, they’re greatly appreciated. He was still groovy up until the day he died. Stephen Moore

.CHUCK JOSEPH [ex DJ on KILT FM/KILT-610] (Houston, TX) Good Morning Jim and Lacy!! Hope you are doing well! I’ll work on a good story that is G rated! I’m feeling better after my injections. The side effects kick my butt but I’ll be OK and stay positive! It keeps me going in my old age! Have a great day my friend and give Lacy a treat for me!

TOBE HOOPER (January 25, 1943 – p) You need an R rating because without one, you can’t advertise and the film won’t get shown.

**** IN GOD WE TRUST ****

“I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuse and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust”  Ps. 91:2    NIV

Just as the last issue, foremost in my mind at this time, is the danger our great country is in. We must all get out and vote before or on November 6th. Bill and I voted this past Wednesday. as we were going on a short trip to Florida to see our former doctor there.

I’m pleased to say that the song my friend and co-writer, Rhonnie Scheuerman, wrote (LET’S MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN), is still getting an abundant amount of airplay both in the US and aboad. It was #12 right after it was released on both the Top 50 & Top 100 Airplay  Direct charts. Many of you have commented that it is the perfect pre-election song. We appreciate that and because of it’s worldwide appeal plus the fact that it offers hope & a solution to the problems in today’s world, was why it was being released again last month to radio on WHP #136; also on a compilation CD for the Christian Market – Tunesville Express#7 I was pleased to learn today that Gary Bradshaw released it again on his just released WHP POLITICAL  “MEANINGFUL” DIGITAL COMPILATION VOL.2  Link to  download on Airplay Direct .

Your Voting for America’s Comeback Team (Romney/Ryan)is a  big step to get us back on track!  GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
