Toby Keith’s Oklahoma Twister Relief Concert will be held July 6 at the University of Oklahoma’s Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman. Show time is 3pm, doors open at 1:30pm. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 21 at 10am; all seats are $25, all inclusive, all seats reserved – eight-ticket purchase limit. The star-studded lineup of performers, now being assembled, will include Garth Brooks, Willie Nelson, Trisha Yearwood, and Ronnie Dunn. Proceeds will benefit The United Way Of Central Oklahoma May Tornadoes Relief Fund. Updates on the event and lineup will be posted at .tobykeith.com. For Keith, this event and the May storms that led to it are deeply personal. “I grew up in Moore, I live in Norman and I’ve got lots of family and friends who were directly affected,” he says. “I know these folks and they’re resilient, but we’re going to keep helping them any way we can. I’m proud to get together with some others from around here who are just as committed as I am to supporting these communities.” “Once we got the news that the tornado had hit Toby’s hometown, Miss Yearwood and I told Toby we were at his service for whatever he chose to do,” Brooks says. “I am amazed at the human spirit the tornado victims have shown. I am humbled by the giving of the volunteers. It is an honor to get to be a part of this healing process.”

Larry’s Country Diner, currently just a set for the RFD-TV show produced at the network’s Nashville studios, will become a real restaurant in in Music City sometime next year, Larry Black, the show’s producer, has said. The 140-seat diner, featuring the same sort of fare served on the TV set, will be built on a 3.5-acre tract Black has purchased just off I-40′s Exit 196 in West Nashville.  Word is it will have the same look and feel as the TV show plus some retail shops, and a stage that will occasionally have live music,

L.A. film and production company, SkipStone Pictures, concluded its Nashville film and production schedule June 1.  A motion picture depicting a true-to-life story of the rises and falls of a country music legend, Like A Country Song (featuring Billy Ray Cyrus) was filmed at various locations within minutes of Music Row (including Franklin, Thompson Station, College Grove, and Brentwood) under the direction of producer/director Johnny Remo, with the support from Executive Producers Allan & Megan Camaisa from Risen Media, and co-producers Daniel Backman and Tammy Hyler (producer/music supervisor). Epitomizing the storyline behind every well-written country music hit single, Like A Country Songis a title that fits like a pair of worn in boots.  The movie is a story of an “up and coming” country music singer, and the life, death and life again of both his family and career.  Thid is a film about forgiveness, redemption, and a family’s struggle to take what’s been broken and make it unbroken once again.

As we all know we lost “the great one” on April 26, so in spite of the enjoyment I always get out of Nashville, this week was bitter sweet.  George’s presence could be felt everywhere.  The way his voice could tell a story was such a gift. He could make you feel every word. He was truly the best and will be missed so very much.

Also, the terrible tornadoes in Oklahoma have to be spoken about. I can only imagine the loss and pain the victims there are going through. My heart and prayers go out to each of them.  Please don’t forget to donate to the Red Cross for this disaster. It is so important.

Well, May was probably this busiest month so far for me and my connection to Century II while in Nashville. And of course while still in Lucasville, I sang at the Southern Ohio Opry, my home base….always a big thanks to Tom Cable. I sang on the show there with Georgette Jones. What a trooper she is, and such a nice gal.

On Saturday I arrived in Nashville a little after 1 in the afternoon. Had just enough time to check in to the hotel, shower and change clothes in time to meet Jim Ed Brown at the Opry. It was so “cool” for lack of a better word. I was given a backstage pass and was able to watch Jim Ed from the audience and to also visit everyone backstage. While there I spoke with Lance Miller, one of the writers of Jim Ed’s new song, the White’s, Rhonda Vincent and John Conlee. The show went great (as usual). Jim Ed nailed his new song “In Style Again” and the audience loved it.

My one big dream in this life is to sing on the Opry. It brings tears to my eyes just to think about it…maybe someday….

After the show we went to John A’s Restaurant with big hugs to John A and his son where Jim Ed and I sang a few songs with Shar’s Band. They are awesome. Jan Howard was there and visited a while, love that lady. It stormed something terrible all evening, but the crowds were great everywhere…can you tell how I love Nashville!?!

Sunday, Marty Martel was back in town from Pennsylvania, I’ll be meeting with him and dinner later in the week. On Sunday Allen, Bobby G. Rice, Alice and I went to Madison to Larry’s Garage to do some singing for the Old Farts and Jackasses Festival! Oh, my! Met veteran artist Bobby Lewis while there. The festival went from 1 till about 5. I had such fun singing and listening to the other artists. Later there was some business with Bobby G. for Century II and dinner. I finally got back to the hotel about 10:30….long day again, but how I love it.

On Monday we’re had lunch with Jim Ed at the Puffy Muffin in Brentwood, nice place. Jim Ed said it sounds “girlie” but it isn’t. The food was quite good. Then I had a late afternoon meeting with my publicist Marty Martel. He does such a good job…BKD and Midnight Special Productions.

On Tuesday we had studio time at Studio X in West Nashville, tweaking….then at noon it was on to Donaldson to meet with Gene Kennedy for chart info. ..Very interesting and it’s always good to see Gene. After lunch meeting it was back to the studio until about 5. Then back to the hotel and changed and out again to meet with legendary songwriter Jerry Foster and Sharon. They are two of my very favorite people anywhere.

Wednesday morning I was back at Studio X and then to Stony River Steakhouse for a meeting with Jim Ed and Helen Cornelious. After this, Allen and I went to Skyline Hospital to visit with Great Country Radio DJ Mike Stevenson. Mike has been fighting a hard fight and I sure wish him the very best. He is loved by so many of us Indie artists, “Get better, Big Mike.”

At 5 P. M. I met with Marty and we went on to the private viewing for George Jones at the funeral home. There were so many people….what a loved man he was.  I felt really honored to be on the list for the visitation.

Thursday morning we met with Bobby G. Rice at SMS Studios in Hendersonville to listen to some new songs for Bobby to choose to record for Century II. We spent most of the day there and then to the hotel to change and go to the show at the Ryman to hear Jim Ed again. It was a good show with Larry Gatlin, Darrell Singletary and Terry Clark. It was my first time to see a show at the Ryman, another first!

Friday morning I was able to sleep in just a little and then went to Sharon’s to talk more business with Jerry Foster. The man is amazing. He has so many stories, so many awards. He and Sharon make you feel so welcome.

Saturday morning was time to fly back to Ohio. As usual lots of business and lots of fun happened in Nashville.  It is really hard keeping up with Allen Karl. I truly have never known anyone who loves country music the way he does. He would work on it 24 hours a day if he could.

And in a letter dated May 17, from the Rural Roots Music Commission, my single “A Satisfied Me” was selected “Contemporary Country Single of the Year for 2013” I will have my own show on the Main Stage at the NTCMA Music Festival in Le Mars, Iowa over the Labor Day Weekend.  I give my sincere thanks to the Rural Roots Commission for this award.  I am thrilled!

More good news on Indie World Country Report for May 24….Allen and my duet, ‘Ain’t That a Lovin’ Shame” is Number 1. It is also Number 1 on the ECMA Chart! Also on this ECMA Chart my single “A Satisfied Me” is at 7 and “Don’t Tell Me That You’re Gone” is at Number 9. I think that covers most everything.

You know with all the tragedy and sadness we see in this world every day, I really do feel blessed, and know that I need to thank all my fans out there for their support and all the people in this world of music for their friendship and knowledge. And last but certainly not least the good Lord above. I am a truly blessed person.

.WHISNews21 Prayer Line and thoughts for Tuesday June 19, By Marty Martel.

Marty, My oldest sister Betty Villifranco who lives in Savannah, Ga has been diagnosed with lung cancer.  They will be doing surgery probably the end of this week to remove about 30-40% of her lung.  They just finished all her testing and will know in a couple of days if the cancer is contained just in her lung.  I appreciate all prayers as I know nothing is too big for our mighty physician to handle. Thanks - Jeannette 

Marty, would you add my precious daughter-in-law Liz Ventress, my son John to your prayer list  We’ve just learned that her cancer has spread and the doctor has given her “days–perhaps two weeks” before we will have to say goodbye to her. She’s a very special lady and my son isn’t quite sure how to handle all this at present. Thank you - Shirley

This Likileake By definition  e-mail or e·mail also E-mail?

By definition  e-mail or e·mail also E-mail ( m l ). n. is:  A system for sending and receiving   messages electronically over a computer network, as between personal   computers.  More and more these days I am hearing a client, friend, or associate say to me just mail me the information.  This is a reference to e-mail me the details even though the “E” was not mentioned in the sentence.

E-mail is now such a way of life that I can honestly say my own Grand-daughter has never written a letter, put a stamp on it and mailed it.  She is 10 years old.  I have heard her say upon carrying the mail into the house and placing it on the dining room table, “Here’s the stupid mail.”  Stupid mail?  Of course this is a direct result of hearing her parents say, “We didn’t get anything except stupid advertisements and junk mail.”  So I guess there is going to come a day when reading a hand written letter from a loved one will be only a distant memory.  I suppose some would say this is nothing but an old man reminiscing.  Perhaps they are right but I can still remember getting a letter from my girlfriend while serving in the United States Navy and smelling her perfume on the paper.  Can you do this with e-mail?

I have a request for your prayer line.  Bonnie’s cousin in Arizona was being treated for breast cancer.  Yesterday she began convulsing and was taken by ambulance to a hospital where they performed a CT  scan and found I/2 of her brain is covered by a large tumor.  Please ask your prayer warriors to remember her in their prayers.  Her name is Vanessa. Thanks,Rick

Update from Maggie Penn: My primary Dr was just in, said lungs are sounding better. And is going to take the saline IV drip off, said I don’t need it now. But is keeping the 2 antibiotics and steroid going. Said the pollens did it, and especially the mold count, it all caused the infection in both lungs and caused my already severe emphysema to flare up. I am not laboring to breathe. But then not trying to do anything physical yet. When I get to go home, I will have a good friend coming to stay with me a few days, till I am 100% back on my feet. Then my pulmonary Dr just left and said lungs are sounding better, no wheezing. And I may go home in a couple days. My primary said probably Tuesday. Prayers are being answered, thank you, please continue. love you all ♥ Maggie Penn

Maggie just sent me the following update and this one is not what she wanted to hear, but with our prayers and prayer lines, I know she will be alright:

Marty, the nurse just came in with a mask, I said, oops, do I stink, we both laughed. She said ohhhh nooooo and laughed more. She said a test just got back and I have a bacterial pneumonia and it is contagious . So now they all have to wear masks and gloves in my room   So cancel last message!!! Maggie

My sister Elsie Bennett in South Carolina and her husband Sam are in need of our prayers and prayer lines. They both have health issues and I am asking you to add them to your prayer lines.Thanks again for all you do and God bless you and your efforts.
