<p><strong>(Nashville, TN) Chuck Hancock </strong>delivers another great song for radio play. This time he has selected a Ray Price/Mel Tillis song <strong>“Heart Over Mind”</strong>from the past, to be his new country single. If you are a true country music lover, and you long to hear more steel guitar and fiddles, then this is just for you. The performance and production on this song will take you back to when country music was COUNTRY MUSIC. Chuck is now finishing up his first new country project and we are excited about the great songs that he has written for this CD. Besides touring, and his passion for horses and rodeo’s, his plate is filled with great success. He just topped the <strong>Country Gospel Charts</strong> with his <strong>First</strong><strong> #1 single, “That’s Where I Was,” </strong>in Country Gospel Music. Chuck Hancock has his sights on his first #1 Country single and with his talent as a great vocalist and songwriter, we feel he will attain this goal. He has been successful because of his perseverance in all that he does.</p>
<p>Chuck’s new website will be up and running in the next couple of weeks, and you will have the opportunity to get to know more about Chuck Hancock, <strong>The Real Deal.</strong></p>

A good EPK should be available upon request on DVD and should contain at least one fast song and a slow one as well.  It should also contain a brief interview in order to show the artist’s personality.  You would have to submit a photo, a CD, a biography, your contact information, and some kind of performance video to match what can be accomplished with one DVD copy of your EPK.</p>

<div><strong>Tennessean Reporter Anita Wadhwani: </strong>Mike Dungan is president and CEO of Capitol/EMI Records Nashville, but for the next week he will also wear another hat as member of the board of Country Radio Broadcasters at the industry’s biggest annual gathering.</div>
<div>The Nashville-based nonprofit organization is holding its annual Country Radio Seminar at the Nashville Convention Center Wednesday through Friday. About 2,000 DJs, station managers, music industry executives and aspiring artists interested in getting the attention of decision-makers are expected to attend.</div>
<div>Dungan has worked at Capitol Records Nashville since 2000 and served on the board of Country Radio Broadcasters since 2001.<em>Billboard Magazine</em> recently placed him at No. 85 on their Power 100 list of the music industry’s most powerful players. He has had a hand in launching the careers of some of country music’s top artists on the label’s roster, which include Lady Antebellum, Keith Urban, Darius Rucker, Eric Church and Dierks Bentley.</div>
<div>Dungan, who is married with two grown children, spoke with<em>Tennessean</em> music reporter Anita Wadhwani last week about the evolving and sometimes contentious relationship between record companies and radio.</div>
<div>The one topic Dungan declined to discuss, though, was the likely fallout in terms of <a href="http://www.tennessean.com/article/20120219/BUSINESS06/302190073/Executive-Q-Radio-play-complex-game-record-labels" target="_blank">marketing</a> and jobs from Universal Music Group’s $1.9 billion deal to buy EMI’s recording division, including Capitol Records here and its roster of country music heavyweights. The impact of that on Music Row is unclear.</div>
<div><strong>How has the relationship between radio and record labels changed over the years?</strong></div>
<div>Like all businesses, it’s increasingly less about relationships and more about effectively selling. That’s what we do: communicating facts that make our music and artists the most attractive to radio <a href="http://www.tennessean.com/article/20120219/BUSINESS06/302190073/Executive-Q-Radio-play-complex-game-record-labels" target="_blank">customers</a>.</div>
<div>More than ever, we also need to know who the radio stations are. What makes them tick? What do they need to make their stations better, their lives easier? And what do they need to give them the best chance of pleasing their customers, the listeners? And we have to do this in an increasingly homogenized environment.</div>
<div>Increasing consolidation in the radio world has put more power in fewer hands. Programming decisions for individual radio stations are increasingly set from remote corporate offices. Less consideration is given to the differences between stations, between markets and between the listeners of those stations. What works here may not work there. So, the broadcast decision-makers are usually demanding content they feel will work everywhere. That can make it difficult to be creative in what we deliver.</div>
<div><strong>Is it tougher to get new artists heard on the radio today?</strong></div>
<div>Yes, it is, but that seems to go in cycles. There are times that radio seems to be more open to new artists and times when they slow down. I found that, by and large, if you come with great, interesting stuff and you’re diligent and good at presenting it, you’re pretty good at surviving.</div>
<div>It just depends on having superior music and superior artists all the time.</div>
<div><strong>Does the increasing number of independent record labels out there make the competition for radio even fiercer?</strong></div>
<div>Radio is definitely a sought-after part of the equation, but I don’t know if the proliferation of independent labels is really part of that. I think that ebbs and flows, too. It’s still a very tough game, and country music is still heavily dominated by the major labels.</div>
<div>People still come to Nashville in search of their dream. Most of them don’t achieve it and go home. That’s part of life.</div>
<div><strong>Given that a lot of airplay decisions are now made at corporate headquarters, is there still the same need to send artists on the road to talk to individual stations across the country?</strong></div>
<div>We still do that. You can question the wisdom and validity of that tactic, and from time to time we, like all labels, will pull back on it thinking it’s just not worth it. As soon as we do, what invariably happens is the radio station turns around and says, ‘What’s the deal? You must not be committed to this artist, because you didn’t bring them by.’</div>
<div>We are still a very touchy-feely, gotta-get-to-know you kind of format. That’s something that’s very unique and special to country radio and country artist relationships.</div>
<div><strong>What other challenges are there in breaking new artists on the radio, particularly in light of shrinking playlists?</strong></div>
<div>More than anything, the options for entertainment and information are growing ever more diverse, and the audience is therefore more fragmented than ever before.</div>
<div>To the audience, one size definitely does not fit all.</div>
<div>But in many cases in consolidated radio, that’s exactly what they’re getting. In my opinion, the audience is more discerning than ever. We have a completely grown generation that has been marketed to their whole lives and they’re sick of it. They’re keen to spot and reject things that are manufactured, overly hyped, overly marketed and lacking in authenticity.</div>
<div>There’s a large chunk of our younger fans that simply are not listening to the radio. They learn about music online, through television, through word of mouth. <a href="http://www.tennessean.com/article/20120219/BUSINESS06/302190073/Executive-Q-Radio-play-complex-game-record-labels" target="_blank">Social media</a> is massive, and it’s getting bigger every day. One person posts that they really dig a certain artist or a certain piece of music, and “bam,” all their friends know it.</div>
<div>Depending on their level of connectivity, many of those friends will immediately check it out, especially if there’s a link on that.</div>
<div><strong>What’s been the impact of online radio and online music subscription services?</strong></div>
<div>Pandora, in particular, is showing up bigger in our own research amongst fans of country music fans. Country music fans lag a little behind on some of the new <a href="http://www.tennessean.com/article/20120219/BUSINESS06/302190073/Executive-Q-Radio-play-complex-game-record-labels" target="_blank">technologies</a>, historically at least, but it is showing bigger. Clear Channel entertainment has been aggressively pursuing online listening of their individual radio stations through their iHeartRadio program.</div>
<div>I believe these two types of listening platforms will continue to grow. With respect to streaming subscription services like Spotify, I think it’s too early to forecast how the consumers are going to react. First adopters are aggressive in their use.</div>
<div>You have to keep in mind this kind of listening experience can require some significant interaction on the listeners’ part. Programmed radio is a passive experience. I feel that in an increasingly busy world, there’s going to continue to be demand for a listening environment that appears before us.</div>
<div><strong>Do new listening streams change how you do business as a record label?</strong></div>
<div>I still believe the key to this <a href="http://www.tennessean.com/article/20120219/BUSINESS06/302190073/Executive-Q-Radio-play-complex-game-record-labels" target="_blank">business</a> is to keep it lean, mean and focused, not just throw things out there and see if it sticks. You have to have a commitment to everything you’re doing. Over the last 10 years, it’s the way we’ve operated exclusively and the way we’ll continue to operate.</div>
<div><strong>Record labels and radio have opposite views on proposals such as the federal Performance Rights Act to require radio stations to pay royalties to artists on the music they play. How do you think that will work out?</strong></div>
<div>It’s tricky. Most of my friends who work in radio, and I have many, have told me off the record that they know that paying the artist and the master owner is the right and correct thing to do.</div>
<div>But the broadcasters have suffered through some pretty tough times over the last decade or so, like a lot of industries, for a lot of reasons, some of them self-inflicted. I think there was a feeding frenzy when they first deregulated radio, and I think they’re still paying for it now.</div>
<div>These guys have a tough time adding the cost of paying for a performance right into their budget, and we all recognize that.</div>
<div>My understanding is what record labels and the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America, the umbrella group for the major record labels) have been proposing recently is a graduated payment scale, starting with tiny numbers that will increase over time.</div>
<div>But passage of this legislation will happen sometime in the not-so-distant future, because it’s the right thing to do. The only countries that do not have performance rights are places like Iraq, North Korea and the United States.</div>
<div><strong>How does country radio differ from other radio?</strong></div>
<div>I do think country music is in a great spot, largely because of Country Radio Seminar. I think it’s the singular thing that helps define us, that helps all of the shareholders resist the easy temptation to just go ahead and become part of the corporate wallpaper that is broadcast radio.</div>
<div>I think there’s always been a special relationship between the people who create the content and the people who play it on the radio — between the labels and the radio people.</div>
<div>But in radio, in general, I am very concerned they have continued to de-emphasize the live and local aspect. That can do irreparable damage to broadcast radio.</div>
<div>In the interest of sweetening the bottom line, many radio stations have removed some or all of their local on-air talent — their disc jockeys — in favor of satellite programs that originate somewhere else. Much of it has become very sophisticated with very accomplished, successful air talent hosting these programs. So, in smaller markets, the listening experience increases dramatically. There’s a big benefit to that.</div>
<div>But in larger markets, I believe it has a negative impact. I think the best radio comes from someone who understands you, the listener, a fun and entertaining neighbor who is always there, bringing you the cool stuff. There are some radio stations out there that are masters of that.</div>
<div>Then there are others that resonate just like corporate wallpaper.</div>

<div><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color:#000000;font-size:small;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color:#000000;font-size:small;"><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color:#000000;font-size:small;">My answer to all of this is there is too much choice. There are too many TV channels to watch, too many radio stations to listen to, too many satellite feeds, too many Internet Radio stations, too many of everything all trying to get the attention of the listener and the viewer. Most of my generation listens to their personal collection of music and doesn&#8217;t even bother with the radio in their cars. I will give you one example of over-choice and then I will shut up. Recently I was invited by a friend to dine at a Greek restaurant in NY. The menu was 21 pages. My first thought was how are they going to bring our food out to us in a timely manner if everyone orders something different? In the end my friend ordered a burger and fries and I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. Twenty one pages of choices and their money earned from us came from 2 standard meals served anywhere and everywhere. They offered too many choices and that is not how you earn your money. Don&#8217;t read into this something I am not saying. I like the choice of a white shirt or red or blue or grey or black etc. but I can only wear one shirt at a time. The radio station that is going to get my listen is the one playing what I want to hear. The TV channel that I watch is the one I want to view. It doesn&#8217;t matter that the other hundreds of choices are scrambling to get my allegiance.</span></span></span> </p>

<h2 style="text-align:center;">BY A SERIES OF SMALL THINGS</h2>
<h2 style="text-align:center;">BROUGHT TOGETHER&#8221;</h2>
<h1 style="text-align:center;"><strong>VINCENT van GOGH</strong></h1>
</div>
<h2 style="text-align:center;">*-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-*</h2>
<p style="text-align:center;"><strong>Birth Year : 1853<br />
Death Year : 1890<br />
Country : Netherlands </strong></p>
<p>Vincent van Gogh, for whom color was the chief symbol of expression, was born in Groot-Zundert, Holland. The son of a pastor, brought up in a religious and cultured atmosphere, Vincent was highly emotional and lacked self-confidence. Between 1860 and 1880, when he finally decided to become an artist, van Gogh had had two unsuitable and unhappy romances and had worked unsuccessfully as a clerk in a bookstore, an art salesman, and a preacher in the Borinage (a dreary mining district in Belgium), where he was dismissed for overzealousness. He remained in Belgium to study art, determined to give happiness by creating beauty. The works of his early Dutch period are somber-toned, sharply lit, genre paintings of which the most famous is &#8220;The Potato Eaters&#8221; (1885). In that year van Gogh went to Antwerp where he discovered the works of <a title="Rubens Gallery" href="http://www.rubens-gallery.com/" target="_blank">Rubens</a> and purchased many Japanese prints.</p>
<p>In 1886 he went to Paris to join his brother Théo, the manager of Goupil&#8217;s gallery. In Paris, van Gogh studied with Cormon, inevitably met <a href="http://www.pissarrogallery.com/">Pissarro</a>, <a href="http://www.cmonetgallery.com/">Monet</a>, and <a href="http://www.gauguingallery.com/">Gauguin</a>, and began to lighten his very dark palette and to paint in the short brushstrokes of the Impressionists. His nervous temperament made him a difficult companion and night-long discussions combined with painting all day undermined his health. He decided to go south to Arles where he hoped his friends would join him and help found a school of art. <a href="http://www.gauguingallery.com/">Gauguin</a> did join him but with disastrous results. Near the end of 1888, an incident led <a href="http://www.gauguingallery.com/">Gauguin</a> to ultimately leave Arles. Van Gogh pursued him with an open razor, was stopped by Gauguin, but ended up cutting a portion of his own ear lobe off. Van Gogh then began to alternate between fits of madness and lucidity and was sent to the asylum in Saint-Remy for treatment.</p>
<p>In May of 1890, he seemed much better and went to live in Auvers-sur-Oise under the watchful eye of Dr. Gachet. Two months later he was dead, having shot himself &#8220;for the good of all.&#8221; During his brief career he had sold one painting. Van Gogh&#8217;s finest works were produced in less than three years in a technique that grew more and more impassioned in brushstroke, in symbolic and intense color, in surface tension, and in the movement and vibration of form and line. Van Gogh&#8217;s inimitable fusion of form and content is powerful; dramatic, lyrically rhythmic, imaginative, and emotional, for the artist was completely absorbed in the effort to explain either his struggle against madness or his comprehension of the spiritual essence of man and nature.</p>

<h4><em><strong>Country Icon Proves Again Why He’s A Pop Culture Giant</strong>: </em>February 20, 2012 – Fans of Hank Jr. can kick the wintertime blues with the announcement from Curb Records of the March 27 release of a retrospective collection of signature hits from the iconic superstar. The package will feature 22 of Hank Jr.’s best songs that span decades of his high octane music making career, that includes high points such as <em>Family Tradition, A Country Boy Can Survive</em>, <em>All My Rowdy Friends Are Comin’ Over Tonight, </em>and <em>Whiskey Bent And Hell Bound.</em></h4>
<p><a href="http://whisnews21.com/2012/02/20/are-you-ready-for-some-rowdy-country-friends/hankcdcover/" rel="attachment wp-att-2500"><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-2500 alignleft" title="hankcdcover" src="http://whisnews21.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/hankcdcover.jpg?w=150&#038;h=150" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a>In the history of recorded music, perhaps no ‘second generation’ heir to a musical dynasty has surpassed superstar status to become a true American icon as boldly as Hank Williams, Jr. With stacks of gold and platinum lining his walls amid Grammys and Emmys and the reflection of the nearby crowns of Entertainer of the Year resting comfortably on his mantle, Jr. has carved a giant niche in the annals of the record industry. Stepping from the shadows of the greatness of Hank Sr. the current incarnation of family greatness is unique in Hank Jr’s relevance and the amazing influence of his music and image as part of America’s pop culture. He is by any definition a 21st century pop culture force to be reckoned with. Along the way, as witnessed by the new Curb package, Hank Jr.’s music has become rooted as a unique creative barometer consistently reflecting both our nation’s challenges and the resilience of human nature in general—and Hank’s creative finger on the pulse of culture in particular. From the familiar shout of <em>&#8220;Are You Ready For Some Football&#8221;</em> to the brooding country patriotism of<em> &#8220;A Country Boy Can Survive,&#8221;</em> Hank is seemingly permanently woven in the midst of America’s daily soundtrack of life&#8211;from football, to politics, to his latest reincarnation of the Williams family’s traditional way with a song.</p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Tracks include:<br />
</span></strong>&#8220;Family Tradition&#8221;<br />
&#8220;Whiskey Bent And Hell Bound&#8221;<br />
&#8220;Women I&#8217;ve Never Had&#8221;<br />
&#8220;Outlaw Women&#8221;<br />
&#8220;Kaw-Liga&#8221;<br />
&#8220;Old Habits&#8221;<br />
&#8220;Dinosaur&#8221;<br />
&#8220;The Blues Man&#8221;<br />
&#8220;Texas Women&#8221;<br />
&#8220;Dixie On My Mind&#8221;<br />
&#8220;All My Rowdy Friends (Have Settled Down)&#8221;<br />
&#8220;A Country Boy Can Survive&#8221;<br />
&#8220;If Heaven Ain&#8217;t A Lot Like Dixie&#8221;<br />
&#8220;The Conversation&#8221;<br />
&#8220;All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight&#8221;<br />
&#8220;Country State Of Mind&#8221;<br />
&#8220;Born To Boogie&#8221;<br />
&#8220;If The South Woulda Won&#8221;<br />
&#8220;There&#8217;s A Tear In My Beer&#8221; (with Hank Williams)<br />
&#8220;Red, White, &amp; Pink-Slip Blues&#8221;<br />
&#8220;Bartender Song (Sittin’ At The Bar)&#8221; (with Rehab)<br />
&#8220;All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming For Monday Night Football&#8221;</p>
<p>Whether old or new friend or fan of Hank’s, the March 27 release from Curb offer a singular reminder across the span of all 22 tracks: Now in a sixth decade of making music, Hank’s totally ‘done it his way’.</p>

<p>In a town full of attractive Country stars, it takes a lot for a young female singer to stand out and catch the attention of Nashville&#8217;s music industry crowd. Eighteen -year-old Rachel Holder is up to the challenge.</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve already learned that it takes more than a few good songs to make it in Nashville,&#8221; says Holder. &#8220;These days, I don&#8217;t think that there&#8217;s any one formula for success, necessarily, but I know you have to have faith in yourself, passion for the music and a serious will to succeed. And great songs!&#8221; she emphasizes.</p>
<p>Though still in her teens, Rachel&#8217;s talent as an artist matured fairly quickly. As a child performer, Rachel split time between attending school in Chattanooga and performing theater shows in Pigeon Forge, one of Tennessee&#8217;s most popular tourist destinations. By the time she was old enough to drive, she had added more than 800 Broadway-style shows to her resume, often performing two or three shows a day to packed houses. With the experience she gained on the small stages of Pigeon Forge, the teen singer-songwriter decided it was time to make the jump to the big stages of Music City. With a new single out and a debut album in the works, Rachel is poised to be a star in Country music, and perhaps beyond.</p>
<p>If there&#8217;s one thing that Rachel Holder conveys almost immediately in person, it&#8217;s her unflappable sense of confidence. She was simply born to be a performer, and it shows. One story in particular illustrates that point, and her demeanor, perfectly.</p>
<p>When she was only 15, Rachel attended an intimate Vince Gill concert in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with her parents. In between songs, the aspiring singer raised her hand and boldly (yet politely) asked to join the superstar on stage to sing a duet. Vince, surprised and somewhat amused, agreed, and only moments later the two were bringing down the house with a version of &#8220;Oklahoma Swing.&#8221; (Search for it on YouTube and see for yourself). Then there&#8217;s the story of Rachel successfully booking herself to sing the national anthem at a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game at only 14-years-old. Rachel Holder is, in a word, fearless.</p>
<p>Of course, Rachel&#8217;s debut single, &#8220;Chocolate,&#8221; proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that this engaging young lady has a thirst for originality and a creative streak a mile wide. &#8220;Chocolate&#8221; is pure pop-Country brilliance, but it also belies Rachel&#8217;s intensity and seriousness as a true artist. Look no further than her a cappella version of the Roy Orbison classic, &#8220;Crying,&#8221; – sung in Spanish, no less – to understand the depth of her talent (also on YouTube). However, it was Rachel who wisely recognized the light-hearted appeal of a song like &#8220;Chocolate&#8221; to release as her first single.</p>
<p>&#8220;I chose that song because I could really relate to the lyrics, and I think that a lot of other women will, too,&#8221; she laughs. &#8220;I&#8217;m excited about the way the song has come together, and I really think that the video for it is such a unique concept that people will definitely stop and take notice,&#8221; she continues.</p>
<p>Working with renowned Nashville industry veterans such as acclaimed producer and publisher Chuck Howard, film and television producers Marvin Baker and Ann Gillis and songwriter Bill Luther, Holder has set herself up for success. Naturally, in Rachel&#8217;s mind, failure is not an option.</p>
<p>Still only 18-years-old, this blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty has come a long way from the stages of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, but the path she&#8217;s on in Music City should take Rachel Holder much, much further.</p>
